Define P4P

Its a perfectly correct point, I think its just so hard to leave the legend out! But he needs to step up his game, I gave Vazquez benefit for a long time before saying that he should no longer be there, now Hopkins either needs to fight and fight someone of some skill!

 

Thats the problem, even if you can be consistant yourself its all petty "fuzzy" when you have a number of people/ lists involved.

 

I said that because of the p4p discussion earlier today on that thread about the BBC's rankings and I saw Bernard's name.I don't know who posted up lists and it doesn't matter,just generalising

 

I guess that's the whole p4p debate;conjectural?

 

Hopkins was at number 3 IIRC? Obviously the list was made by someone who is big on achievements and because of that will give Hops some slack on his recent form.

I suppose putting togther a P4P list and debating those of others can be a fun exercise but I've never been a fan because of the lack of any clear consensus on how/ why the fighters should be ranked.

 

In my more cynical moments I prefer "pointless", but "conjectural" will do....

If you strip the P4P question down to its original meaning and ask "Weight aside, is Bernard Hopkins currently the 3rd best fighter in the world?" then the answer is "no".

Maybe the question is just getting to complicated these days with all the different weightings of record, form, achievements?

It is the best performer regardless of weight!!

 

I've not give it much thought and the heavyweights generally get a raw deal in P4P lists but the way he is currently dominating his division then Wlad would have a shout.

 

I thought the same earlier in that BBC rankings thread so I gave both Klitschko brothers a mention.Wladimir would be a strong contender for me also

 

The criteria have certainly become blurred - fighters are on and off lists constantly these days.

Margarito went from nowhere before beating Cotto to being amongst the top five, before being cast aside after the Mosley loss - upon which Mosley came from nowhere to do the same.

Just seems like a popularity contest to me, other than on the general, where it is very important that someone has the 10th best fighter in 10th spot.

Who cares, other than the top 2 or 3?
