A low blow is any blow that is below the bellybutton (navel), "NOT" the "BELT". This is the true definition of a low blow.

I got very tired of hearing Al Bernstein calling the low blows landed by Miranda "questionable"! I checked it out, they were "all" below the navel and the belt. The rule is "Below the Navel". So, next time a prejudiced boxing commentator calls a low blow questionable, look at the navel to find out the truth. Yes, Bernstein had an agenda.

I really thought it was below the belt. But since Miranda hit below both, there can't be much discussion.

What would happen if someone had his navel above his chin?

Well, that would be much harder than wearing his belt there. Remember when Michale Grant wore his belt up to his chest?!

Yeah. Thought of that later, but lost connection to internet. Good point.

does the ref check where the navel is? i mean the shorts are often times a little high covering the navel.

The belt is often covering the navel, which will make the belt the indicator.

True, the commentators were really biased and desperately wanted to prove the judge is favoring Abraham. At least they admitted they were wrong on a couple of occasions.

Often you will see a ref telling the two fighters, in the middle of the trunk band is ok...ie they are wearing thier trunks high.
