Definition of a paper title?

Vacant titles are USUALLY paper titles untill it is defended against #1 contender or another champ.

when chagaev stepped in to fight wlad when Haye injured his Vagina, the WBA wouldnt sanction the fight...so even those he was the current WBA champ, and wlad kicked his ass and should have it....it became vacant and Haye and Valeuv fought for it somehow.... winner thus being a paper champ...because neither beat the champ who had it

 

Examples of paper titles:

Pac VS Marg. A paper title because one guy only got his 6th loss and first KO loss down at welterweight. While the other steps up in weight yet again but to take on a culprit and cheater for a legit title in a weight hes done nothing at as well as an opponent whos done nothing at the weight.

Valuev VS Haye. Valuev was the WBA champion, beaten by Chageav, who had to have a layoff and thus Valuev became the champion through a technicality, Chageav was meant to rematch Valuev to decide who is the true WBA champion but it fell through... Chageav then got forgotten about and Haye crawled out to take Valuevs WBA title. Which was in fact a paper title he didnt win, but was 'given' because he didnt take on the man who truely held it. confusing huh?

Examples of vacant titles which are not paper titles:

Froch VS Pascal - Two solid 168 contenders stepping up, and they proved so in the fight and with what they have achieved as of recently. Both proving to be world class.

 

I'm a firm believer that you aren't a champion until you defend it against worthy opposition. Although I think Pac-Margo is going to be a weight grab and then Manny goes back down to Welter.

 

The one that's around Lucian Bute's waist is a perfect example of a " Paper title "
