Ok, you're right ... My new clause reads: if ten or more insane persons can get together a petition to dispute an otherwise undisputed claim, we can consider it legitimately disputed.

" if ten or more insane persons can get together a petition" .... pretty much describes most the threads on this site.

    When is a champion "undisputed"

Since there is no longer a World Boxing Association, there can no longer be a TRUE UNDISPUTED Champion.

Once the WBC followed by the IBF then WBO, IBO, WBF and Im certain more are to follow.

Right now, the 4 major orgs, WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO are considered legit since they each can lay claim to the the top man of a given division.

    WBA,IBF,WBO Wlad Klitshcko HW
    IBF/WBO Hernandez/Huck CW
    WBO/ IBF&WBA Kovalev/Hopkins LHW
    WBA/ IBF&WBA Ward/Froch SMW
    WBA Gennady Golovkin MW
    WBA/WBO Lara/Andrade LMW
    WBC&WBA/WBO Floyd/Manny WW
    WBA&WBC Danny Garcia LWW
    IBF/WBO Vasquez/Crawford LW
    WBO Mikey Garcia SFW
    WBC/WBA Gonzales/Donaire FW
    WBA&WBO Guillermo Rigondeaux SBM
    WBC/WBO Kameda/Yamamaka BW

As it stands, the WBO has 8 titlists who are probably the top dawgs in their division.
    IBF has 5.
WBA has 8 also, 9 if you include both Froch and Ward who simultaneously hold the WBA Super SMW Championship belt:yep
    The WBC has 4.

I believe a ring announcer can announce a fighter as Undisputed if the general public agree that a fighter is the man to beat in his division.
Especially if that man can not make fights with the other titlists or the top challengers are constantly seeking other avenues towards a title. Common sense here.

Wladimir Klitschko is the Undisputed HW Champion of the World.
Sergei Kovalev is the Undisputed LHW Champion of the World
Andre Ward is the Undisputed SMW Champion of the World.
Gennady Golovkin is the Undisputed MW Champion of the World.
Danny Garcia is the Undisputed LWW Champion of the World
Mikey Garcia is the Undisputed SFW Champion of the World
And Guillermo Rigondeaux is the Undisputed SBW Champion of the World.

Wlad is b/c he holds 4 world titles, and hasnt been allowed the opportunity for the 5th.
Kovalev is b/c he holds 1 world title and was ducked by both Stevenson and Hopkins.
Ward is b/c he still holds a title and he beat the #2 decisively while the #1 lost to the #2 decisively.
GGG is b/c he was ducked by Sturm IBF, Geale WBA, and Sergio WBC. He's also being ducked by Quillin WBO and now Cotto WBC.
Garcia is b/c he holds and defends 2 titles and he beat the #2 and b/c the #3 just lost his bid in a narrow and controversial decision.
M Garcia is, b/c he holds the best resume at his weight, and NO ONE IS BEATING HIM THERE.
RIGO is b/c he holds 2 belts and b/c NO ONE WANTS TO FIGHT HIM AND NO ONE IS BEATING HIM.

Notice how I didnt call Floyd undisputed yet he holds title in 2 wieght classes and will likely conquer a third in his next fight.........

He refuses to fight the #2, and has ran from him as far as retiring and has stated publicly that he would drop his belt before he fought the #2.

Riddock Bowe once beat the Undisputed HWCotW, Evander Holyfield. Yet he threw his belt in the trash in order to avoid Lennox Lewis, the next Undisputed HWCotW.:deal

He finished his contract with HBO and signed exclusively with Showtime to fight in the S6.
He was regarded by most experts and fans as the #1 SMW in 2011.

When Dan G005EN refused his entry into the S6, Bute patiently waited taking on his mandos and then schooled GJ in a 120-108 shutout in which he tore a tendon in his L shoulder.

He took Froch on Froch's home turf and was awestruck by the booing. He lost his nerve and may never recover.

Wladimir has 3 out of 4 belts yet some say that he is not undisputed  I dare you argue that he is not the true Heavyweight champion.

Them again at Cruiserweight you have the lineal champ Hernandez but he is inactive and faces soft opposition. The division also has Huck and Wlodarczyk who both hold belts and could possibly beat him.

You have a similar case at LHW. Stevenson is the champion but many feel that that would not be the case if he fought the nr 1 and 2 contenders in Hopkins and Kovalev.

At SMW i dare anyone say that Andre Ward is not the division champ. All the other 3 titlists Froch, Abraham and Bika... Ward already beat them.

The term Undisputed seems to be used the wrong way in boxing but maybe thats just me.

Its not hard to figure out who the Undisputed Champ is if a fighter unifies all the titles he becomes Undisputed. Its hard to make an argument for someone being better if the champ beats the other title holders. I think all you need imo is the WBC/WBA/IBF the WBO lately seems like a Top Rank title seeing as the majority of the WBO Titlist are TR fighters and has some of the weakest mandatories. With the presidents of the WBC/WBA/IBF recently meeting to create new guidelines for Unification fights we should have more true Champs in the future instead of just Titlist. The WBO was invited to the meeting but didn't/couldn't show up which is basically a reflection of there stature next to the other belts.

Never will the Undisputed Champ be a meaningless title 3/4 of the belt holders are usually 3/4 best in the division so beating the WBC Champ, WBA Champ, IBF Champ, and/or the WBO Champ to become the clear cut #1 Champ will never be worthless.

It should be when a fighter holds all the major belts. Ring, WBC,WBA,IBF, and now I guess the WBO.

I really don't think it's open to much interpretation.

All those guys might be the clear division champs, with the most trinkets, but as long as they aren't in possession of all the major titles, he isn't undisputed. He'd be considered a unified champ.
