Chavez isn't a bum, the only man who he has lost to is Sergio Martinez, one of the best of the generation without doubt. He might not be the best in the world but on the back of two mandatories Froch deserves to pick a fight just like every other champion gets to. Froch wont pick a middleweight top 50 fighter to come up in weight like Danny Garcia did, he wants to fight a man with a 48-1-1 record, which isn't bad by anyones standards. Hes not picking an easy fight, yes there are tougher fights like Ward and GGG but Ward isn't fighting anyway so that one is irrelevant and GGG wants to clean up at middleweight first. He is possibly the only fighter of the generation to have fought the whos who of his division but not only done that but fight them wherever in the world. Nobody does that, there are a few guys who will fight anyone like Marquez and Klitschko but they do it in the same place but you have Froch who has fought in the USA multiple times, Finland and Denmark plus fighting other UK fighters away from home too with the second Groves fight in London.
Can't think why you would draw too many parallels between those fighters and Kovalev but I guess you are free to make mistakes as you please. Froch fires his lazy jab and Kovalevs right will lay him out, why do you think Kov can move in on his opponents so easily? Because they stop throwing jabs. Most of the greats step up in weight category, if theres no interesting fights for Froch at 168 , as has been alluded to, he should give Kov a try. Personally I think thats the last fight he'll ever have...
Froch is too damn old especially by boxing years he was just about to fight Chaves but got injured and he has a good jab when he wants to but yea he gets lazy with it. See the Abraham fight he actually boxed. He just fought 2 mandatories and his current mandatory was already bested by the guy he fought 2 times. He deserves to choose his next fight not just because it is a retirement fight but because he has fought two mandos. As for Kov I want to see him fight Pascal it will be a better gauge than his latest win a 50 yr old BHOP who is his best win. I don't think LHW is that strong or has been as strong as SMW in recent years. I know BHOP beat Pascal but that was 4 years ago and at his age his physical talents are deteriorating rapidly. Kovalev vs Stevenson would be ideal.
He can choose whoever, that's up to him & hearn, but don't expect anyone except ardent supporters of his to be thrilled if he fights less than stellar opposition. That's just the way it is. It's different when a retiring fighter is on a losing streak and wants to bow out with a victory against easier opposition, of course that's a totally different situation. Froch is still being billed as being at the top of his game so the public will demand from him to fight quality opposition. I personally don't understand why he doesn't just retire. A fight vs Chavez even in Vegas, will not give him a bigger stage than the one he got vs Groves, so what is the man chasing? Is fighting in Vegas regardless of the quality of the opponent that important to him? For instance he could lose vs Kovalev in Vegas and still get a going away present of a fight in Nottingham.
I drew comparisons with those fighters as they are seen to have very good power at the time he fought them. Yes Froch can get lazy with it when he isn't up for the fight and you know as well as I do that Froch will never be laid out! Yes you are right he gets into range because they stop throwing jabs, so that's why Froch will keep his jabs going like he did against Kessler, Groves 2, Pascal and AA. I would like to see the fight but Froch wont go up to 175 because he says he is so comfortable making 168 he would only disadvantage himself by moving up. Fighters move up because they struggle to make weight, going up in weight for the sake of it would effect his stamina, speed and many other of his attributes making him half the fighter he is at 168. Froch has a very good jab, just ask Kessler, if he keeps that going throughout the fight Kovalev will get sloppy and open up leaving himself there for the taking at times. Its not an easy fight because he would need to maintain concentration for every minute because Kovalev is so dangerous but I do think Froch has the tools to win most of the rounds through the jab plus the power to KO him at some point in the fight. Its much like Stevenson really because he has the range and power to beat Kovalev but he doesn't have the chin that you have to have against someone like Kovalev and that's why I would slightly favour Kovalev.
They might have power at 168 but what about 175 power? I'm thinking Kov carries significantly more power than those fighters you mentioned. Kov is faster than most people think, he throws the right very naturally, quick release from the chin and he really snaps it out. Im thinking he neutralizes Frochs jab. And it's not as if fighters decide to stop throwing the jab, it's that they realize they cant throw it by fear of eating another right hand. Simply 'choosing' to throw jabs anyway, forcing the issue, is like running into traffic, and will get you nowhere. Coming back to the weight argument, yes Froch will disadvantage himself but that's kind of the point. The public always wants to see great people challenge themselves and truly that goes for anything in life. The next challenge barring Ward will be @ 175. Is that unreasonable, even uncharitable...maybe but that's what will really get people going. You must also remember that Kovalev and especially Stevenson arent physically too much bigger than Froch himself, so it's not like he's going to be massively handicapped.
Froch has fought top comp after top comp and just finished 2 mandos he can choose he wants. Both Ward and GGG have been saying Chaves is a good fight for them but Froch is first in line so it's now a bad fight? It's funny because Froch is held to a higher degree than other fighters and it is ridiculous. You have Khan lovers on here bashing him but Khan is fighting fighters like Alexander and Collazo. Mayweather lovers on here who bash him but Mayweather gets a pass for not fighting Pwill, Margarito, and Paquiao it is bull****.( not saying Froch is better than Mayweather btw) Froch has actually fought everyone in his weight class that mattered but now that he is choosing a fight to retire just for one more check I his box to fight in Vegas he is a coward that is ridiculous. Anyone calling any damn boxer a coward IDC if it's someone not ranked in the top 50th behind the comfort of a keyboard is a b*tch plain and simple.
:good Unfortunately Froch is old (especially in boxing years) and past his best. He needs to retire boxing has taken a lot out of him he isn't the same fighter who fought Pascal. We should try and look forward to more talented fighters like Ward to move up especially since he beat Froch.
Would love to see the fight and maybe eventually we will get it. I think we would have already if he hadn't lost to Groves but let's see him fight Dirrel instead.
Get your point but fighter become more able to take shots at higher divisions. Its not the case of them choosing to stop throwing but take Cleverly for example who did throw a lot in the first couple of rounds, he doesn't do it with any snap and it wasn't effective enough to keep him away, therefore it becomes pointless. Froch throws a much better jab than him so it does come into effect. No one moves up in weight to please people, its a case of making themselves a better fighter which Froch doesn't believe it will and I agree with him. Yes they are similar in dimensions but Tyson for example was the right height for a big middleweight in terms of height but its just a case of how you carry weight and the natural build and shape of your body. Froch has fought many faster fighters than Kovalev and the only top fighters he has faced that aren't quicker are maybe AA and Johnson. He is a good fighter but Kovalevs strengths are going against Frochs strengths, like his power vs Frochs chin for example, so I kind of think Froch is wrong for him but obviously not as wrong as Ward is for either guy.
Fair enough but I know I don't want to see the fight, Degale does too many things that suit Froch in my opinion and it will end in KO for Froch. The only guys I can see Froch losing to are Ward and maybe GGG but I still back Froch 55/45
What I don't understand is how can you be so confident that Froch will beat Kovalev but be against Froch moving up to 175. It's either one or the other isnt it?
This fight will never happen as Froch is a SMW at the twilight of his career and Kov a LHW at his peak, but i'd like to make a couple of points....... Kov has beaten nobody other than Cleverley ( who turned out to be far less of a talent than most thought ), and a 50 year old Nard. His biggest asset is power, is this enough on its own to discourage/stop Froch ? Youth and athleticism flattered his so called boxing prowess against Nard. Nard was a stationary sitting duck for large portions of the fight, yet monster puncher Kovalev was unable to stop him, even in the last few rounds when Nard was totally spent. Nard is not a noted finisher, and spent most of the fight in reverse, yet every clean shot he landed clearly troubled Kov. Froch is known for his chin and his engine, he always finishes fights strongly. Kov was fighting a 50 year old man who for most of the fight didn't move and didn't throw much back, but Kov was blowing like an old boiler in the last couple of rounds. As for the size comparison........ your talking absolute *******s and you should spend more time researching your claim that Kov and Froch are similar sized before coming on here rubbishing other peoles theories/opinions.
What I am saying is Froch wont move up in weight for the fight. But if the fight were fought at a weight that suited both I would see Froch winning. Fantasy match up really in that if Froch was able to fight as he does at 168 at 175, then I would strongly favour him winning the fight. Not really difficult to get your head around to be honest mate.
