Sometimes a bit of arrogance can be a good thing, but in the case of James Degale, I truly think it ruibed his career. From the early days you see flashes of truly elite talent, but you also saw the very obvious and basic flaws. How many times did we see him laying on the ropes getting wailed on by far inferior opposition. I mean you think getting battered by "Rogelio medina" would be enough to think ok i REALLY need to make some changes But Degale never seemed to be able to admit that things weren't going to plan. And Jim "luuuuuuhvley mate" Mcdonnel in the corner drove me nuts too.
I think Degale is above Groves in shotness Groves is pretty shot though, after he got cobrad all his hair fell out and he fell off a boat and stuff. Carl basically turned him into an old man with dementia.
I wasn't aware of Groves falling off a boat post double cobraing? Is Froch aware of this / has officially added to the resume?
I don't know him personally so can't comment on Degale the man, but his boxing persona is incredibly arrogant and suffers from delusions of grandeur. Part of that will be because it's inherit, part of that will be because of the amount of smoke he's had blown up his arse throughout his career, but most of that will be as a result of having Jim McDonnell as his trainer.
I've met James DeGale a few times and away from the cameras he is without doubt one of the most down to earth fighters I've ever met, a genuinely nice man. I do understand what some say though because before I met him I thought he was a 24 carat bellend. I just don't think he can help himself, stick a camera in front of him and it's like he gets tourettes, it's a real shame because most will just assume he is like that 24 hours a day. As for being shot, he has had a lot of tough fights now, draining fights, they shouldn't have been like that, his ring ego has cost him and I personally believe most fighters can only do a few of those types of fights before it noticeable and sadly DeGale is starting to show all the signs of a fighter with too much wear and tear.
In terms of talent, boxing, hitting without getting hit, few are as good as Degale. Epecially as an amateur. I always saw Degale as a top boxer who couldn't fight. To be fair though, he had a fairly good career as a pro and an excellent amateur career.
i completely disagree him laying on the ropes is not a sign of arrogance, he just not a 12 round fighter and has shown that all his career and if hes arrogance than all fighters are because they are all trying to copy the Muhammad ali trash talking
Not that laying on the ropes is arrogance but that he couldnt admit to himself that he had stamina issues and try to fix that and instead deluded himself that he was putting on defensive masterclasses
Well if being the current super-middleweight weight champ with millions still in the bank is finished then iIi will take that every day of the week. think what you are saying. how many boxers achieve what he has? Ok he is at the back end of his career but he is still relevant, as with Groves.
