Am I right in thinking Eddie promised Degale the winner of the Froch / Groves and made it public that this was the case ?

If I'm right then I feel a little sorry for James now that "promise" is a not going to materialise. In my opinion it was a ploy by fast car to try and raise the profile of what was an average undercard and using false promises to fans and fighters. I like Eddie and matchroom but don't agree with breaking promises to fighters especially when made public.

I take it back if Eddie never actually said the above but I'm pretty sure that was the case leading upto the fight.

DeGale must have known that there was a good chance that Froch would win and would fight in Vegas. It looks possible that Froch will vacate which is the ideal scenario for Hearn to keep both fighters happy.

    Degale is IBF mandatory
Froch can take a voluntary but has to eventually fight Degale unless of course he vacates the belt.
Either way Degale will be fighting for the IBF title soon

That was nothing more than a back up plan in case Groves won.

On the groves froch Facebook q and a when froch was asked if he would fight degale if he beat groves he specifically said yes he would it would make a great fight for later in the year!!

Now he's won it's as if degales not even on the radar it's Vegas or retire!

Can't help but think maybe Eddie asked him to say it to hype the undercard

Indeed, wouldn't be that shocked if eddie thought groves would win so at least he could have another big fight to promote whilst froch goes out to Vegas, can't say I feel that sorry for degale, was pretty obvious that froch wanted to go a different route after the groves fight.

Can't see him vacating either, that WBA belt he's got won't help sell the Vegas fight, degale will once again be left waiting on the sidelines as froch is eddies biggest cash cow and eddie will do what froch wants, in fact I wouldn't be too shocked if groves fights for a world title before degale

Personally I wouldn't guarantee that. If you did, you'd lose.

De Gale may have the world title but It will be worthless as He needs Froch or Groves for a payday; If Froch retired then De Gale will be desperate for the Groves fight who has made a lot of money from the Froch fights.

Don't be to sure about that.
Sauerland is trying to get arrange a match for Groves against Sakio Bika, a possibility deGale threw away by signing with Hearns.
So it could be that Groves holds a world title before Chunky does ....

The fact is he is mandatory for the IBF, the IBF have just forced the rematch with Groves which was originally a mandatory IBF defense (I'm pretty sure? ). This means Froch has a voluntary and then possibly WBA mandatory or even unification. If DeGale didn't see this he's been a bit naive. He would be better capturing a title and raising his profile with performance like Saturday, Froch has made it clear he is not on the radar and I don't blame him, DeGale is a reasonable risk without the huge domestic appeal.

This is how I'd like to see it pan out...

Degale beats Bika and Abraham and becomes the WBO and WBC Champ.

In that time, Froch beats Chavez and retains his IBF and WBA Belts.

THEN they both have a MASSIVE All-British unification at the City Ground. If Froch wins that he retires as THE MAN.

Eddie should be trying to make this happen...
