I actually think DeGale and Calzaghe are very similar...skillful, elusive and slappy :tong

I think he has the potential to go all the way to the top. He totally demolished Smith on Saturday and although Smith is no Carl Froch he is certainly not the mug some on here like to make out.
I think in a few years DeGale can beat a fading Froch :bbb

At this stage in his career he is doing very well, it's long haul, there is no rush...:yep

He needs to get Groves out of the way in the next 2 or 3 fights, it will stop it turning into a similar tale of Witter/Hatton or Froch/Calzaghe...:yep

Degale has the potential to go all the way...:yep Careful matchmaking at the right time and 100% focus and preperation will be the key to the success of his journey to the top...:good

 

Not really Froch-Calzaghe mate. That fight was never really on the cards at any point.

 

Considering what Degale has achieved so early in his career and the way he's looked doing it it's easy to see where Warren is coming from.

I think that Chunky will do a number on Groves, domestically, I don't see any more opponents remotely competative for him...:deal

 

The calling out mainly consisted of Froch calling Calzaghe names in the papers so he could publicise his latest Commonwealth title fight...

Unlike Hatton-Witter and Groves-Degale there was no real 2 sided rivalry.

Has anyone seen the interview that quote came from? He said "after 9 fights". Not the most outrageous comment ever made...

 

He has a point when he criticises Calzaghe. Calzaghe broke away from Frank after the Hopkins fight and decided to promote himself for a fight with RJJ and what does Joe do? Agree to a 50/50 split with Roy, lol. As Frank Warren said "Roy must have thought he had won the lottery".

 

Not the full story mate. Calzaghe split 50/50 with Jones and then had no promoter to pay out of his 50%. It was the same promoter who it turned out already owned Calzaghe money from previous fights.

 

But could Joe not have negotiated even more for himself? Was he really that bad at negotiating?

Joe was p4p top 3 going into that fight. He was the recognised champ at SMW and LHW. Roy had done nothing to be entitled to 50% at that point, even 40% would have been too much.

It's like if Wladimir Klitschko decided in his next fight will be against Evander Holyfield and he gives Holyfield 50% based on the fact that he's Evander Holyfield.
