james degale will and should turn pro. He reminds me of calzaghe with the southpaw stance, low hands and alot of slapping. however i think his career as a pro will be more zab judah (who also has a similar style) than calzaghe
??? If Sutherland had of taking his balls with him to the ring he wouldnt even have being a mention by now Decent tidy boxer, nothing special id imagine
No, he doesn't equal any of them and it is impossible to say whether he will even get close. Chances are he won't, infact. He's nothing like Calzaghe either.
Degale is nothing special, Olympic gold does not always translate into pro success. The guy comes across as arrogant and I know for a fact he will be found out in the pro game as soon as he faces anyone half decent. Sutherland would woop his ass in the pro ranks.
no i think he means his ameture style was like JC and he thinks his pro style will be more like Judah.
He did well at the games and will now become our best prospect when he turns pro. Whether he turns out to be a very good pro who knows, I hope he does well. Beating duffs like Sutherland cannot give us any indication whether he can be a successful pro.
Id rather have him win the gold and get some attention when he go's pro not only for the fact hes English but more to the fact it will again get boxing more exposure, i only got into boxing due to khan in 04 and i love the sport now, so if Degale can do the same then im happy before hes even had his first pro fight.
Degale does SLIGHTLY remind me of Calzaghe in certain aspects of punching technique and abit of Mayweather with the way he uses his feet (note that i use these comparisions loosely)
Let me tell you something. Amatuer boxing hardly resembles pro boxing at all any more. The Olympics went from having a pro like scoring system, with no headgear and switched because of controversial scoring. Now, the one punch landed = one point scoring system has turned amatuer boxing into a game of "tag". And there is still controverisal decisons, the scoring hasnt changed at all for the better. There is no incentive for a fighter to throw power punches, when it counts the same as a weak jab.
I'm not sure about that man. Very little seems to count. No bodywork is scored, you are hard pressed to get anything for jabs that even snap back the head, and even if you land a clean counter there is inconsistency in whether it actually scores. Hence there has been some low scores
Yeah, thats right. If you are on the wrong side, nothing you land will count. But yeah the scores have been very low. The entire Olympics is over now, and I still don't know what should count as a scoring blow? Beterbiev was landing solid power punches and scoring nothing, Zhang was landing grazing slaps in between falling down & holding and won.
