Jim McDonnell, the trainer for DeGale, told Boxing News that 35-year-old Lucian Bute (31-2, 24 KOs) and 36-year-old Mikkel Kessler (46-3, 35 KOs) are both possibilities for DeGale’s next fight in September or October. Kessler hasn’t fought in two years since his 12 round unanimous decision loss to Carl Froch in May of 2013.

I’m not sure if the International Boxing Federation would sanction a fight between DeGale and Kessler, given the Danish fighters lack of a top 15 ranking.
Unless Hearn could smooth it over with the IBF, they might say no a fight between DeGale and Kessler. Bute is a different matter. He’s still ranked at #6 by the WBC at 168.

Bute last fight was against Pascal :

Kessler last fight was more than 2 and a half years ago against Froch:

Eh could be worse but it would give Bute a chance at redemption. But I don't see either Kessler or a Bute giving DeGale much problems at this point.

Yep Degale has to much AM pedigree for them too, just sit in the pocket and counter them to death as they come in

Bute has a decent amateur pedigree, GGG even cited him as the best boxer he's fought.

Did GGG not KO him in the AMs?

Bute was giving it to GGG until he got stopped, bute always had a questionable heart tho, and that's coming from one of his big fan.

Note GGG also fought dirrell, andy lee in the AMs and Gaele etc in the pros. Cool to see he rate Bute higher than them.

It must be Mr. Kessler. I applaud Mr. DeGale in his pursuit of winning the Super Six tournament. He's got so much ambition, the tournament officially ending 4 years ago still won't stop him.

    Go get 'em, Chunky!

I got Bute in an 11 round Bute. As long as this Bute is the Bute of old and still has the brutal Bute body blows. WAR BUTE
