After watching the fight again i cant help thinking that when DeGale was agressive and bullied Groves, he pretty much always won the exchanges. However he didnt do that often enough.
100% credit to groves he clearly frustrated degale with his movement and poise.

I scored it 115-114 Groves. But i feel with the right gameplan Degale can beat him. The question is does he have that mentality? Its pretty clear now groves HAS degale's number. For some reason.

It sounds like DeGale lost it on poor preparation. Fights' are not won just in the ring but out of them. Tactics are a huge part of modern day boxing especially with youtube/dvd's of fights.

He made a bad call early in career opting for Jim. He fought the wrong fight and allowed it to go to judges when he could of done more.

By sounds maybe i'm wrong but sounds like there was more avenue for Improvement from DeGale on last night then Groves who fought to his optimum. Maybe i'm getting wrong impression?

Degale looked like serious trouble for Groves.... but the trouble was it was only in short spurts and that was down to Groves movement, Degale was doing the Mayweather shoulder roll, put it this way he's no Mayweather! :happy

Well yeah. He spent 4 or 5 rounds stalking and doing nothing and allowing Groves to pinch rounds. He showed he was capable of stepping to Groves and putting it on him late in the fight. But he put it in the judges hands too much by letting those rounds slip. He was the stronger guy with the better chin, it wasn't really a highly skilled type of fight it was a matter of forcing the pace and getting the job done and he didn't do it conclusively regardless of whether I and others score it for him.

He should of been applying a bit more pressure to take away Groves's thinking time, and cutting the ring down, that would of helped cut off Groves's exits, and made him move at a faster pace than he would be comfortable with, and that is where Groves's poor footwork would of been more exposed imo.

De Gale might want to learn how to snap the jab to, instead of pushing it.

If De Gale was on it more, instead of taking the fight for granted, maybe he starts quicker?

Degale was his own worst enemy in my opinion. He went in their expecting to be the counter puncher and Groves didn't give him the chance. Like Ishy pointed out last night about Degale saying what are you going to do box off the back foot or something along those lines. He clearly wasn't expecting it and when it happened he had no answer for it.

He clearly isn't comfortable leading off the front foot as seen in his early days when in against opponents just looking to cover up. He was chasing Groves and getting in range but still wasn't throwing. He looked the better fighter in the exchanges but did get himself in to enough of them in every round.

Was really disappointed with Degale last night. Groves forced him to rethink his tactics and he couldn't do it. The help from the corner wasn't much either. The only time he tried to change was around the 4th where he stopped dead waiting for Groves to come to him but Groves didn't bite.

    Agree.

Irony is though, De Gale either wants to (be smart) stalk/counter punch off the front foot, or he wants to walk in, march into range, problem with both those strategies, is it allows the opponent to get off first on you, cause when your waiting, they can feint you out to offset your timing, then get off with their speed, or when your walking in, they can simply rattle off a combo, then move, cause your bringing the target to them.

Why cant De Gale put a 1 2 3 together, why cant he double the jab and put his straight left behind it? that is basic Boxing, it just goes to show his limitations in terms of fundamentals imo.

De Gale might have problems getting across the killzone, he doesn't seem to have the balls to work his way across it with the jab, then put his straight his shots together, he either wants to stalk so he can counter off the front foot, or he wants to walk in.

Grooves fought the fight of his life.. and only just won it, wheras Degale barely did anything. Degale threw the fight away.

Hopefully he'll go back and take a different approach to his boxing.

But Groves is not on the elite level, he's very exploitable himself in terms of footwork, defense, yet he still beat De Gale, and its not the first time, is that coincidence? could be, but maybe not.

Adam Booth was telepathically controlling Defail, making him not throw punches.

That's such a **** excuse. DeGale "barely did anything" cos he didn't know what to do early on. He wasn't expecting that from Groves and his corner hadn't prepared him properly.

Like LHL said, he's poor on the front foot and Booth knew this and took advantage of it. It's all well saying he should have done this or that but he wasn't capable of doing it. Groves took him out of his comfort zone.

I don't think DeGale gave the fight away. He was behind after 4, 6, 8 and 10 on most peoples cards. So it's not like he gave it away during the fight.

His preparation clearly wasn't very good and his ego stopped him from having a good gameplan against George Groves.

That said, James DeGale is massively flawed as a fighter and his technique is far from great. Groves took advantage of this and just outboxed him. Not sure how you can give the fight away when you just get outboxed?
