Does anyone else think the Degale Groves poll in BM last month might have had a reasonably significant impact towards the outcome on Saturday, in that it made Degale even more complacent and fired up Groves a bit more? I remember Jimmy Mac mentioning it in the build up and essentially quoting it as evidence that Degale was going to walk it.

I've just reread it and, aside from the 29-2 outcome, there are also quite a few comments which I think made Degale too big headed and Groves more pumped up
"Anderson's just a rugge kid, nothing outstanding. Degale would play with Anderson." Errol Johnson
"Lately I've not only swung to Degale but expect him to win easily" Johnny Eames
"Degale will have too much class and win convincingly" Carl Greaves

There are a few others too but I'm sure you get the picture. I know hindsight's a great thing but I personally thought Degale would win a close fight beforehand and, IMO had it not been for a lot of comments such as the above, I think he probably would have.

I agree, but I think most people I spoke to thought it would be close. I just think there was a lot of stuff like this in the media before the fight which made Degale think he would just turn up for an easy win. IMO if he had more of a mindset that it would be a tough fight he would have won

It might have made DeGale more confident.
I put a bet on Groves to win at 11/4, but confess it wasnt a confident bet. I had a feeling Groves was going to go on the back foot and imagined several different outcomes for the fight before making the bet.
Groves ripped up the script and after watching the fight again thought Groves was a bigger winner than on the first watch. I thought the commentary was a bit bias but maybe that is just me.

Still it is all good for British boxing as neither fighter suffered a bad KO and now we have 2 great prospects after the fight instead of just 1

I can't believe how favoured degale was based on 2 fights- Groves/Anderson and Smith/Degale. Remember before that the hype was all for Groves and people were unimpressed by Degales progress. Not that it bothered me too much, if he hadn't have been hyped up so much I wouldn't have got the 14/1 on Groves pts!

yea, 2 other things i think may have made a difference, in the Anderson fight Groves was ment to fight 2 or 3 weeks before, so have peaked on that date wouldnt of felt his best a few weeks later, also, this time around Groves would of been able to have alot more time 1 to 1 with Adam Booth, with Haye not fighting for 6 weeks

yeah i agree on the Booth point. I also think trying to use the boxing skills vs Anderson was just the wrong way to go. Not that he couldn't box but to deter anderson he had to plant his feet and try and push him back. The degale fight was obviously a completely different style

Can't remember both but Matt Scriven picked Groves!!!

I haven't done much singing about it but I always felt Groves would win.

The only other person on here I can remember confidently picking Groves was Mr Palmer!!!

Magee would be a good fight I reckon. Hayemaker seem to like to push their fighters and keep putting them in with better tests so I reckon that would be a useful test. Wouldn't be bad to watch either. Can't see the point in going backwards for him now though, he's progressing fine as he is. What do u think? :think

    From Mr Palmer maybe.

I saw the Anderson fight as a huge positive as opposed to a negative. Groves has a good style and had style top beat him.
