From the scene... George Groves' mananger Adam Booth has had his last escape route out of a British Super-Middleweight title fight against Champion James DeGale blocked by the British Boxing Board of Control. * With purse bids set by the Board for Wednesday 9th February for the big DeGale-Groves showdown, Booth, who has called out DeGale from day one, attempted to delay proceedings by a further month in a letter to the Board * This request was swiftly rejected by the Boards Stewards' and purse bids will remain on the date advised. * DeGale's promoter Frank Warren tried to make the fight prior to going to purse bids but encountered countless demands from Booth, many of which Warren accommodated, but in the end it became clear that Booth did not want to make the fight - hence his 'last resort' letter to the Board. * Groves is reportedly fighting in Los Angeles on 5th March, but why is he taking a fight there when a bigger fight against DeGale awaits him? * On his own website Groves says, "If one of us backs out of this fight now, it's going to look ridiculous and all the hype and all the verbal that's gone on beforehand will have been for nothing." * Roll on Wednesday 9th February...
either way looks to me like warren and degale want it but only groves fancies the job on the other side
Nah - I think Warren's just stirring the pot, same as he did when he claimed Haye was ducking Maccarinelli.
i would really like to see this fight, but i just can't help thinking it's all gonna end in another let down in which both sides blame eachother and we, the fans lose out again.
It's too early for DeGale-Groves as this fight can be built into more than it is now. Also, DeGale appears to be way ahead in his development so it's understandable Booth doesn't wanting the fight at this stage. However, even if it is a Warren press release it wouldnt be surprising if the gist of it is true given that Booth doesn't exactly have a blemish free past when it comes to pulling the wool over the eyes of fellow promoters. If he doesn't want a particular fight at a particular time for any of his fighters then that's his prerogative. A promoter doesn't have to say that his fighters dont want a particualr fight and they are not compelled to respond. But it pisses everyone concerned off when a promoter enters into negotiations that they have no intention of seeing through. That approach can come back around on you in the end
richard maynard...the author is a piece of ****, writing what warren tells him to write just to stay on his payroll, everyone knows warren is a shirt lifter and maynard is his rent boy.
