Let me begin by saying hats off to Degale for wanting another big fight after the beating he just took. However it seems Degale is coming back with his tail between his legs as I remember about a year ago he said if Groves wants a fight it would be a 90/10 split to me. In my opinion Groves should try win the WBA belt then take the Degale fight as it would then be a unification fight, it could be built up propertly plus it would give Degale time to recover. Then if Smith beats Direll for the WBC then it would mean the winner can take him on to unify all three belts and the last fight with Ramirez would make the winner undisputed. Thoughts!
Groves Degale II in the UK is the biggest fight at Super Middle by far. Whether Groves has a belt or not it probably makes sense to do this one sooner rather than later. If either one of them were to lose again beforehand, it would diminish the value of the fight.
Degale needs to rebuild his profile the UK his been away for some time, not to mention his coming off a beating the fight would definitely be bigger as a unification for my money.
Degale should face his mand, Groves hopefully beat Chudinov then unify on 50/50 terms. There is no way GG would take under 50% of purses for the fight hence he needs a belt. Smith Vs Ramierez and winners facing for undisputed would be a minyt scenario
Don't see GGG moving up to fight these guys anytime soon, he will stay in his division, waiting around for a Alvarez fight.
Good fight for both but I have a feeling Groves will go after the WBA title first, for a few reasons. DeGale has a mandatory obligation to fulfill, so in the meantime Groves can get his WBA shot, on that subject its a little bit of a worry this isn't moving quicker. If DeGale beat Groves then it's all over for Groves after four world title shots. On the reverse side if Groves lost in a WBA attempt I believe British fight fans would still want to see DeGale Vs Groves II. So Groves would get a fifth shot at a world title assuming DeGale keeps hold of his title in the meantime. If Groves wins the WBA title then it's a unification fight and both will get a larger purse in an even bigger grudge fight. I think it will happen, there could be a little triangle of DeGale, Groves and Smith, if Smith as expected fights Dirrell for the WBC and Groves gets his WBA shot then after a lot of ifs, buts and maybes we could have all three of them sitting there with a world title and then the fun and games begin.
Very interested in this fight, but I think Groves is going to try with one of the other title holders first. It will be an even bigger fight in the UK if Groves is able to snatch up a belt before they fight. They're talking about doing a few fights above 160 this year. Even if that doesn't happen DeGale has said that he could come to 160 and fight Golovkin. I'm very interested in DeGale vs Golovkin but I'd prefer it to be at 168.
I agree. Degale could have a better profile in the UK; Groves, too, could do with a more spectacular showing than his last couple of outings. They both ought to have another fight each to build up the rematch. I just think that if they don't do the rematch sometime this year, then there's a good posibility that one or both of them might lose again, which would take the edge of any rematch.
Just for the record, who's holding the 168 WBA belt at the moment? (or who are holding the belts, being the WBA and all)
I think if Groves beat Chudinov then that would give James a chance to have his mandatory and fight Groves for summer or fall big British unification showdown at the emirates stadium.
Yeah just coz the fight was close doesn't mean he was getting caught clean with heavy shots, aestically James looks like he was hit by a truck, perforated ear drum, missing teeth, possible broken nose.
