No head movement what so ever. Gets hit far too easily

A knockout waiting to happen at world level unless he makes serious changes to his "defense" which at the moment is his face

I'm going to write a thread about DeGale after I've had a bit more of a think. Excluding how much I hate him, I think last night's effort deserves some analysis.

DeGale only seems to be able to land the 'cuffing shot'. Very little of his punches are clean at all.

It's a wonder how he knocked Paul Smith out.

He did some decent work to the body - that was what allowed him to win the fight. But at the level his claims to be fighting at, that was a poor performance from James.

He's just not ready for anything more. Talk of Kessler, Bute - even Magee - is premature.

His ability to cope with pressure looks to be non-existant aswell, and there we were thinking it was just movers that caused him problems. When Piotr pressured DeGale, James fired very little back.

    Even Stieglitz would batter DeGale.

He's as average as I said he was. People are saying his chin got tested, but he got shaken up by a very average puncher - that's a worrying test and he barely passed.

He did rock him badly, and stop him though. Which is rather surprising considering how bad DeGale's technique is, and how most of his shots 'cuff' and don't land cleanly with the knuckle's of the gloves.

I hope he is not as arrogant as he is given credit for. He and his team will have to reflect on last nights performance, I think they have a lot to work on imo.

I would love to see Kenny Anderson against James Degale.

Any mix of Smith Anderson Degale and Groves would make a great fight IMO

DeGale needs to ditch his trainer, he seems to be going backwards, his lateral movement was completely non-existent and I didn't expect him to struggle nowhere near as much as he did. Let's not kid ourselves though, Wilczewski is a good scalp for somebody who has had 12 fights, but DeGale barely scraped through. He needs to find a trainer who can iron his mistakes out and has a plan B, McDonnell means well but he simply isn't good enough. :rasta

For the commentator (Rawling) to even suggest DeGale facing the likes of Kessler is crazy, Degale in my opinion would have literally no chance against that standard at present, he took far too many punches last night and really needs to work on his defence, most people agreeing he could do with a fresh perspective in the training department!

I will say he did dig in last night tho and we actually seen some heart from the guy and i was hoping he could pull off the win which he did, a defeat last night would have been devastating for him so i'm glad he got the nod but he really needs to make some adjustments to progress at a higher level for me.

did james degale learn anything from the groves defeat?
degale has to first admit to himself that HE WAS BEATEN by groves, then he can understand how and why it happened, and what he can do to stop it from happening again.
he seems to be going backwards, and putting him in with kessler, in one or two fights time, seems to me to be a real bad idea.
degale already thinks he's a star, but he needs to start making some big changes if he wants to get to the top.

True the same guy turned up to fight confidence breeds confidence of course but he can't be training very hard if you ask me coz he should be coming in ripped at 12 stone he he's very little muscle definition and no abs which you would expect from an athlete who won (Olympic gold for our country) what a feeble attempt to get people to like him . He is another fraudley if you ask me I told anyone who would listen that groves would beat him and the bookies bought me a new car by putting my money were my mouth is :)
