That's how much heart this kid has. He knows that he's the gold medalist, so it doesn't make any sense to him why he's taking this kind of punishment, but he knows what his capabilities are. The problem is that much of what gives him strength is also what gives him weakness. His pride will be his downfall. He has to realize that he does have all the goods to be among the best in boxing. He has to reestablish his fundamentals to realize his potential. If he has an attitude about what one can teach him due to his pedigree, he needs to drop it, if this is what's holding him up. At the end of the day, he needs to develop his jab and his ability to slow the progress of his opponent by sitting down on his shots on the back end, and controlling distance with the jab. The problem with Degale's offensive style is that he tries to be so non-random that he ends up producing a pattern that his opponent can adapt to. For example, Jack would go into a maximum defensive posture every time Degale through punches because he may not have known exactly what would be coming back at him, but he knew it wasn't going to be a jab. The jab is the disruptor. The jab can penetrate even the most restrictive defensive postures. The jab is what causes your opponent to have to develop different defensive postures because they are unsure about the angle of where the punch is coming from. Degale develops a jab, he'll clearly beat Jack in the next fight and potentially knock him out, unless his power is completely undeveloped.
I was talking to a couple of people about this today, DeGale is taking far too many shots for a man with his ability, long term it is going to hurt him, not just in his career but there is a very real possibility his long term health. I think he needs a change of trainer, a fresh approach with a trainer who will drill him on the defensive side of the sport. It would never happen but personally I'd love to see him with a trainer like Adam Booth, I believe his approach would be ideal for DeGale's skill set.
I think his biggest problem is his gas tank. He was gassed last night after round 5, thats pathetic for a world champion. And yea, he needs to sit down on his punches a bit more and slap less with his hooks, dude has the goods, just has to put it all together.
he doesnt have to change everything but you can always add to your game. and a couple new tricks might be needed. degale is a beast very respectable fighter and he brings it
Too long to read. But Degale is an average fighter at world level in a weak division. Callum Smith would take him apart with body shots.
Wow, 7 short paragraphs and your brain malfunctions. What are you eating, McDonalds, corn syrup, coca cola and crisps everyday?
Tbh jack was ****ing strong, he actually looked like a lhw, and you can tell degale werent able to push him back easily.
