I have taken the very kind 4/1 offer from the bookmakers on a Groves KO victory.

I have followed both their careers closely since they turned pro & ive always favoured Groves.

Way to much emphises is being put on the Anderson fight & people forget that Groves was ready to fight 2 months earlier only for the fight to be cancelled.

He was well overtrained, he had to keep the weight off for an additional 2 months, and took on a very tough Kenny Anderson at late notice.

I have never been a DeGale beleiver, and even though his victory against Paul Smith did make me sit up a little bit, that one performance is no where near enough to make me think he can beat Groves.

Groves is a execllent body puncher when he wants to be. He has a very good jab (when he chooses to use it) and when it comes to punching, we all know who wins that battle.

Lets not forget either that Groves has been sparring with Andre Dirrell. GG has shown up on TV over the last few months with various cuts & bruises. He has over compencated for DeGale, where DeGale has under-compencated for Groves whilst sparring with Cleverley.

It was intresting when DeGale was asked about Groves's black eye and he replied sheepishly "He's obvioulsy been having some tough sparring which is good"

What i like about the Groves camp is the sense of realisation. They are very open when talking to the press about his flaws and what he needs to work on. He is very well grounded and understands what improvements he needs to make.

DeGale has people in his ear all the time telling him he's the 2nd coming. If & when DaGale loses this fight it wont be his fault, its Jim Mcdowell & Frank Warren..

I agree with you. Groves has had a much harder education so far with the fights hes had compared to Degales.

Hes trained double hard for this. Im backing him to do it. He seems to know within himself that he can do this. Degale however i reckon he will be the first one to panic if things get tough on Saturday.

Just a feeling iv got. Im backing Groves

    :rofl @ lirva's hypocrisy.

Personally, I have a hunch that Groves might take it. I'm going for the 12/1 on pts though, I see the fight being a scrappy affair and find it difficult to see a stoppage in it

:lol: zero effort you just copy and pasted the final 2 paragraphs from your OP in response to that post.

Anyways i disagree. groves hasnt quite developed as i thought he would. he certainly has the style and talent to defeat degale, just not right now. degale is maturing super fast and at this moment in time, degale is just a better fighter.

if they fought in 2 years down the line, i feel Groves may well have his number. but right now i cant see anything other than a degale win

Having watched Groves a number of times from Ringside and once from the corner here's my pennies worth- as a fan, not a fighter.

    Dead nice chap.

Done everything right in terms of preparation. (sparring) etc.

Has the self belief and skill to certainly catch Degale more then he's had to deal with so far.

But the OP details that the time between Kennys fight and Groves' original contest was two months. It was infact two weeks. I'd much rather have a full training camp and taper for two weeks then take a short notice job like Kenny did, not knowing wether the 12 rounds were in the tank or not. Also Kenny had being sparring heavily with Froch day in, day out. Big demands on the body physically from which he simply did not recover.

With regards to Groves, he is a funny fighter in that he looks a lot better on the TV then he does in the flesh. Against Kenny I thought he lacked real stopping power in his punches and his defence was far too leaky. He becomes readeble at times, I remember scouring his fights before Kennys match with him and there was about 5-6 little things he did that he would do without realising and give away his intensions for his next attack. You'd imagine a top class olympian like Degale would pick up on these things.

I like both fighters, and in the interest of Kenny i'd like Groves to pull it off, but I just thing that Degale will have the fitness/ notice to succeed where Kenny failed. It will be nip and tuck early, lots of feignting but I think that after an initially competitive start Groves will begin to unravel from about the fourth round onwards. Looks for Degale to land straight lefts and get out, before switching upstairs with the right hook as Groves begins to tire and make mistakes.

I think you'll see Groves over at some point around the sixth-eighth, and a subsequent barrage will lead to a typical box office stoppage (you dig?!). I think that we may see Degale have to deal with his first real moments of adversity early but these will be pretty minor and come in the form of perhaps the odd loss of momentum here or the odd counter there.

    Thats my thoughts.

    Amen.

Since the fight was announced Ive always said that Groves either knocks him out cold early or DeGale cuts him up and finishes him late on. I hope its the former and he knocks him out but I do think that it could be a good thing for Groves in the long run if he loses.

I dont put too much, if any emphasis on the Anderson fight myself, as what happened didn't surprise me. Groves is a good fighter dont get me wrong, but his technique was inevitably going to get exploited sooner or later.

I do take the point that Anderson has sparred with Groves quite a bit though, which cant be good, as he knows what your going to do, what flaws you might potentially have.

I do think Groves has underrated speed, he also, because of Booth's instructions, changes the rhythm of WHEN! he jabs, and those two factors make his jab more effective imo. I also think Groves had underrated power, still dont know if he'll beat De Gale though.
