The key question is CAN Eubank develop the skills that he lacks? A jab ablnd footwork!!! Yes or no? Or has he plateaued ?If he is physically incapable of doing so he will go no further in boxing. He’s gone as far as fitness workrate and windmilling can take him. It’s as simple as that!
DeGale doesn’t live the boxing life and there’s nothing in his last few performances to suggest an old version of him is going to turn up. Eubank Jr might edge this purely because DeGale won’t if that makes sense. It’s a shame to see Eubank Jr take center stage and continue to be hyped up when he’s clearly off the pace of world level. Should leave Sr. if he’s serious about improving to the next level.
Degale has stated several times he doesn't like 95% of the camp process and cannot wait to retire. This will be his last fight in which he gets stopped late - but seriously who cares about this crap? PPV is laughable.
This is not a fight nobody will be interested in espically if it’s a PPV maybe a few years ago it was a huge sell but Degale is a shot fighter and his last few performances have shown that. Too many wars and wants a big payday to end his career which isn’t an issue everyone would do the same but just too late with this fight. Eubank Jr is a limited fighter with pretty much zero boxing ability, self trained he just walks forward throwns about 50 shots with no power and tries to swarm the opponent exactly as groves said before their fight. Anyone who can box and move will run rings round Eubank Jr which a fit and motivated Degale would of done but now I see Eubank Jr stopping him in 8-10 rounds. Eubank Jr will go nowhere near anyone in their peak who can box and move and instead will cherry pick opponents who stand in front of him to make him look good
London I’d imagine- the Copper Box or Wembley Arena would be front runners if free. Eubank has stated he wants to fight in Brighton one day but logistics and the lack of a big enough arena mean I doubt that ever happens.
Agree with most of this, but as flawed as Jnr is, he is world level, he eats domestic and most euro middles up. He gave BJS all he could handle to the point they could've had a big money rematch. Fundamentally flawed I agree but he's also got fitness on another level, a good dig, a sound chin and can be quite vicious when he lets them go with bad intentions. I think though with Snr there still he wont have progressed and will have hindered his progress and tbf his whole career. If a decent trainer had got hold of Jnr at an early stage I have no doubt he would be world champion and a serious force against anyone around today !
Disagree, mate. I see the point you make because he has beaten Euro level guys, you'll see better ones he fought were come forward plodders in Yildrim and Abraham. Before I can make any kind of reasonable claim to him being at World Level, he needs to show he can a mover at some sort of different level. N'Dam would have been the perfect test in my eyes. If he could beat him, OK world level, fine. But thus far he's fought guys he will always look good against and then when he's stepped up he has lost. Sure, the Saunders fight was close but it was clear he only came on when Saunders was blowing out of his arse, which he had shown to do in previous fighters. That loss is the best win Jr has managed
Imo when your fighting Euro level guys you really can be classed as world class if your winning, Europes a big part of the world lol(I know it sounds dense) but I get ya. He has to take credit too for Saunders tiring and having a torrid time at times in the second half. Thing is, I see a genuine talent in Jnr that has gone of course with how hes managed himself and his fathers influence. WTF is Ronnie Davies doing there?? Hes like a spare part. Someone with the pedigree and knowledge like Adam Booth, Rob McCracken could've really added something, whereas he just isn't technically improving with his set up
Down to personal definitions I guess. He's fringe world level in my books. There comes a point where you have to ask if the issue is a trainer or the one being trained. Most think the latter and I tend to agree in this instance
I can’t shake the memory of Eubank Jr from the Groves fight. I might revisit it in case there’s a bias, but he was so off fundamentally and lacking in any sort of subtlety. Rather than the sweet science, it was just science - and he failed the test. He may pick up a weak version of a world title but once he comes up against a boxing brain he’s done. He lacks nuance. Also, world class takes place outside the ring too. Good/great boxers make changes when required (think Groves switching trainer) as they have the objectivity to do so. Eubank Jr lacks there also IMO (granted he’s in a tricky spot to walk away from his father).
People forget Eubank has never shown this great engine that people seem to think we all see. Against Saunders and Groves he done nothing in the first half of fight so finished strong. No wonder he finished strong when in effect taking first half of fight off.
Exactly.....Giving 6 rounds away then trying to make them up when you are the fresher fighter is a dangerous/stupid tactic
