This thread has it 19-5-3 in Groves' favour (3 even cards). Might have missed out one or two cards, apologies if so.
Great to see a fair result. I was up for Groves but I had concerns that De-Gale might get the decision. It was very very close though. I thought Groves tended to win his rounds a bit more convincingly, but at the end of the day you still only get 10-9 for a win.
I was surprised Groves got it though. When you consider the number of fights scored primarily on aggression, look at Napa vs McDonnell.... Napa clearly outboxed McDonnell but was going backwards all night and was probably outthrown quite a bit. I'm certain that in the States DeGale would have been given the verdict, probably 8-4 or similar.
I had it for Degale by a point but didn't keep a written card Where the rounds were very tight I kinda assumed Degale would get the nod, and then Jim Watt was favouring Degale too - these things play a part in how you score it live no matter how hard you try to ignore them Close fight either way I thought Groves won the clearer rounds too
I had DeGale up by 1 and my old man had Groves up by 1, both thought it could go either and I think I may have been thinking more that if it's this close on a Warren card, it's going DeGales way. Despite the result going the other way I think it was fair, I just hope this doesn't destroy DeGale mentally but I do hope this grounds him a bit more and gets him away from that twat Jim McDonell. George really won my respect on Saturday and I wish him well in the future as did I hate to say Adam Booth.
Despite rooting for Groves, I ended up with De Gale ahead by 2 points. However, a lot of the rounds were really tight, and I think its's possible the judges were maybe influenced by the massive support for Groves.
I'm watching the replay now.... DeGale 72/378 (18%) Groves 86/399 (21%) I'd imagine that DeGale threw more in most of the rounds, it was between 2 and 4/5 where he was half asleep and did nothing. Seemed to me that Groves outlanded him by more than 16 though, even if he was mainly jabbing throughout the fight.
Here are the average scores from the first 15 cards of the thread (just a bit of fun) Round 1: Degale (14-0-1) Round 2: Groves (0-15-0) Round 3: Groves (0-14-1) Round 4: Groves (0-15-0) Round 5: Even (6-8-1) Round 6: DeGale (15-0-0) Round 7: Groves (1-13-1) Round 8: Groves (1-10-4) Round 9: Degale (15-0-0) Round 10: Groves (0-15-0) Round 11: Degale (14-0-1) Round 12: DeGale (12-0-3) Groves 115-114 Degale The most contentious round was the 5th, followed by the 8th
I'm surprised at the lack of variation in the scores, my card tallied with another that was added before mine, and Rob also pointed out that his was the same. I gave round five to Groves, but pointed out that it could have been scored any way.
