As per title. I honestly think DeGale pisses all over Groves. DeGale has got a real star quality about him, he's no where near the finished article yet but he's got more talent than Groves has and would box his head off. I think DeGale needs to be more disciplined, he likes to put on a show....he needs a strict trainer or a KO loss to get his arse in gear maybe but I think he's going to world level. Groves did well to come back and win tonight, but he showed a lot of flaws, defensively which DeGale could pick apart, imo.
On evidence so far you'd have to say DeGale would give him hell. The Smith fight will tell us a lot about DeGale though.
ATM i would say Degale, but dont forget Degale is 3 years older than groves, when Groves is 25 i expect him to be operating at a higher level than Degale is now.IMO Groves needs a few more fights to iron out some flaws in his defence before he takes on Degale yet.It would be a lot bigger and more competitive fight a few years down the line.
I picked Degale the first time this came up and I still think he would win it.I picked Audley though so clearly know **** all.
Obviously DeGale would be favourite but I really think Groves could win this one. Anyway they should fight early next year so we can see who's the genuine contender and who needs to do more work as a pro. At the moment I'd slightly favour James DeGale but it's a close one and I'd personally like George Groves to win.
never much liked groves and have raised the point of his low left hand on a few occastions but tonight shiowed good and bad of groves the bad being the very very easy to hit part (the reason i think degale wins and makes it look easy) and the good coming through adversity vs a decent fighter
I've been saying for a while that degale is a few steps ahead of groves and tonight I saw nothing to prove me wrong. Props to groves for climbing off the floor tho, I honestly thought he was gonna get stopped but he battled back and won in style. Groves is very good and o like him alot, but of they fought tomorrow Degale wins comfortably on points for me
These threads sum up all that's wrong with boxing. Groves takes on a genuine challenge, needs to compete, comes through it and all of a sudden he's thrown under the bus. Anderson doesn't equal Degale and Paul Smith doesn't equal Groves. Better Groves has these sort of fights now than get a nasty shock ten fights down the line.
the point is that we've seen Groves overcome adversity. Let's say Smith knocks Degale down - will he be the underdog automatically?
On his last showing Groves did not impress me at all. He will have to be twice as good to be even competing with DeGale. [edit: as much as I hate smug git DeGale ]
i'd pick degale to win right now, but i don't see a "battering". in fact, if it goes into the later rounds groves has a decent chance unless degale's stamina has drastically improved from some of the am fights i saw him in. tonight may tell us a whole lot about degale
