What are peoples thoughts on the DeGale v Smith fight? I think DeGale will struggle in the mid rounds but get a late stoppage

I have a feeling Smith will knick it.

This has got to be DeGales hardest fight so far, especially to be fighting in Liverpool where Smith will have a massive home advantage. I have an inkling Smith will cause problems for DeGale

No-one has even tried to win against DeGale yet, just like when Khan was coming up.

Smith will try to win, I expect him to push DeGale all the way...undecided at the minute though.

I see Degale outclassing smith. Both quality fighters, but i predict degale will wear him down to a late stoppage! I see star quality in degale, while smith has seemed a bit of an underachiever

DeGale will dominate Smith. I'm not sure about a stoppage but it will be one sided.

I honestly think degale will beat him handily on points.

Smith is a good fighter but hasnt looked great in his last few outings. Degale has the raw talent, the youth, speed, power and desire to give Paul hell

Smith's only chance is to turn it into a foul filled wrestling match, to rough De Gale up, try and outhussle him, which he could conceivably do if De Gale comes in with his lackadaisical attitude that he only needs to turn up to win, that said, if 90% of De Gale turns up, his has too much ability for someone like Smith.

I get the impression DeGale is the type of fighter who ups his game the bigger the occasion, which is why he's against a tough challenge so early. I don't think sticking him in with bums will help him grow, but this fight should give him a mental boost that he probably needs. Without those challenges, I don't think DeGale will get motivated which is why he's been hot and cold so far in his career.

' No one has fought DeGale yet '.

That's probably the best option, because I think if Smith tries to charge DeGale down and pressure him he'll end up being countered all night long. Either DeGale shows his ability and outclasses Smith or crumples under the pressure.

I reckon it'll be the former..

One thing I noticed with DeGale is he throws the uppercut often, he hurt Horton a lot with that uppercut, eventually finishing him off with one.

From what I've seen, Smith is a balanced fighter, but he lacks anything special. He's one of those guys who are just "slightly above average" in everything. Heck, even his name is bland.
DeGale will surely be tested more than he ever has before, but he should be WAY too fast and strong for Smith. Smith will do his best to make the fight look like absolute crap, but I'm guessing DeGale will be able to figure him out soon enough.
I've got DeGale by KO in the middle to late rounds.

Thing with De Gale, he likes to go into a shell at times and utilize the shoulder roll, only he isn't particularly effective at it imo, as he cant find the transition from defense to offense to make you pay for missing, he can counter punch, but not out of the shoulder roll imo, therefore there is a spot for someone like Smith to muscle him around, lean on him, stick his head in there and try to be dirty.

Pretty much agree with some of the earlier takes, it pretty much boils down to Smith is going to pressure DeGale and he either folds or shines dramatically, because he does have far more natural ability and gifts than Smith. I'm going to say he folds on this one, simply because he just hasn't been in there with anyone credible at all yet.

Agreed, I see the stoppage coming late though for sure.

I think DeGale has enough in the tank to stop Smith, its just whether DeGale is mature enough to block out the massive away crowd disdvantage and not let it affect him
