Degale vs Dirrell

I would almost certainly favour Dirrell at this point in time.

Just because you prefer him doesn't mean he will beat Dirrell at this point. Dirrell has fought on the higher level, and has good all-round ability.

DeGale has Smith as his best win, which is good considering the amount of bouts he achieved it in...but he has yet to be tested, and is not on World level yet.

 

Dirrell vs Degale would be an amateur type fight

you'd have to be insane to pick Dirrell over Deale in an amateur fight

 

Apart from the fact that it would be a professional fight...

 

I think it's reasonable to discuss the possibility of the two fighting one another in the near future, though. James DeGale didn't just beat Paul Smith, he completely dominated every single facet of that fight. DeGale showed himself to be levels above that kind of competition, and Dirrell hasn't exactly set the world a light.

I would favour Dirrell, but DeGale is a top shelf talent.

 

Oh definitely, but put DeGale in with any top ranked SMW right now, and I would favour the top ranked SMW. When I say DeGale has yet to be tested, he may be too good to be in gruelling battles with opposition like Smith, but at World level...he is going to take shots, a lot of shots...he has yet to be tested in the department.

He may just step up a level when he eventually steps up to World level, but at this point...I'd favour someone like Dirrell who is equally as fast, if not faster...great reflexes, probably better power than DeGale...and even more vital, greater experience.

 

Both of them fight like amateurs, this would be a battle of skill and intellegance, a chess match, and Degale knows more moves, the second he adjusts to Dirrels raiding tactics (which wont take long because they are one dimensional) the fight would be over.

 

Dirrell is the fastest 168lbs fighter I have ever seen next to a prime Roy Jones Jr. He is scarily fast when he lets his hands go, and he was making Abraham look like a C-level tomato can before the controversy ensued. I would definitely favour him to beat DeGale, but it isn't outrageous to discuss the match-up. DeGale ain't too far off from hitting world level.

For the record, I think Dirrell is as capable as anyone at 168lbs. Nobody is having an easy time with him, and I'd expect him to clearly beat Froch in a rematch. He got his game-plan all wrong last time out.

 

At this point DeGale doesn't have to footwork to get inside on Dirrell and work his superior skills there. On the outside Andre is the better of the two and would work the jab & 1-2 on the move vs. a defensively still not perfect Chunky. Could James change the mentality of the fight if he catches Andre good? I don't think so, not enough pop.

DeGale needs to learn to effectively cut down the ring without leaving angles open, like a Hopkins or Ward, and when I see that I will reconsider my position, but right now Dirrell by decision.

Did you watch smith/degale? Degale clowned him, he got hit clean about 5 times the whole fight

now compare how much Bute got hit by Magee, who is a 35 year old ham and egger (i know, i know, magee is better than smith) but the fact is, offensivley he isn't MUCH better at all. Yet he was hammering away at Bute, who is meant to be elite.

Name me a guy who looked as impressive as Degale at the same stage, and the fact is other than Froch and Abraham, Dirrll has only fought bums.
