Both rivalries have been getting a lot of comparisons lately in the media, and i really hope the latest fight delivers on the build up. I'm just thinking that at this stage should true fans of the sport be making the same judgement? (I know too may who are!) Could this fight live up to the hype? I'm really hoping that the winner, or loser uses this as a springboard to go on to bigger and better things.

I don't write here that much, i just hope this fight is good enough to pay homage to 2 of our greatest fighters.

The only similarities for me to that Benn-Eubank bout is the needle other then that this fight is different and i won't way as much expectation on these two guys as i would on fighters who have had 20+ fights etc. This could be anything...it could end up a scrappy affair, a war, a technical chess match. I won't get hopes up i'm just looking forward to the event! and the spectacle. I think it could be a very good fight if both guys come with there A game.

this rivalry is true i guess. but it's a bit forced. benn and eubank collided.

these are just amatuer rivals. "oh my god he called groves ugly ginger. man this is gonna be a huge fight"

At least Benn and Eubank was actually a man against a man.

Looking at Groves and DeGale makes you realise just how young they are - just look at their behavior - from both of them - DeGale obviously is the antagonist - but Groves bites back and the way they were going at it in the Sky Ringside Programme - they are 24 years old and 22 years old ............but with the mental age of say - 14 year olds.

    Pair of overgrown kids.

same weight class. Super Middle has been our best division for 3 decades.

what Benn vs Eubank has over it is it was at world level. the 2nd fight being a unification.

what Groves vs DeGale has is thats its a more genuine rivalry. In the sense they have been rivals before they were pro. The rivalry has been there since the begginning and its to both of them its about proving there better than the other not proving there the best in the world.

If Michael Watson has been world champion at the time, Eubanks beef would have been with him. The beef was about being top dogg, essentially money and status. Groves vs DeGale is about more than that.

The last British fight we had hyped up as the latest Eubank V Benn rival fight was

    Haye V Maccarinelli

And that fight ended in a farce inside 2 rounds - with Maccarinelli wobbling around the ring and having a conversation with the ref about the weather.

So I dont think its a good idea putting expecatations of fights like these - because ineviatably it will be hard to live up to the hype of Eubank V Benn which was just one of them geniune rivarlerys - outside and inside the ring they were well matched - that is hard to duplicate.

I stated on a previous thread that the hatred is nowhere near the same levels at Benn-Eubank.

Of course they hate each other, but Benn-Eubank was on another level that went on even after they fought each other.
