Bute is damaged goods and was a hype-job (by world-level standards) to begin with. It will be easy work for DeGale. His team aren't idiots. They're not sending him to Canada with a title to get beaten. DeGale will be happy to have a name on his record and Bute is being cashed out.

Who knows where Froch is at this point? He's an old man and has been out of the game for a long time. A prime Froch fighting DeGale right now, I would agree with you. I'm not sure where DeGale's ceiling is moving forward, though.

Pascal is a LHW so I am not sure how he is relevant other than he fought Bute. And, again, Pascal is another fighter that I consider shop-worn, although not to the extent of Bute. If he had to come down to 168, I would heavily favour DeGale. And I can't see any reason why DeGale would go to 175.

I don't necessarily think Bute is damaged goods, I think Froch ate his soul and took his confidence, and it took him awhile to get it back, but as strange as it may seem I think he got it back beating that Italian guy a few months ago, and if he comes in believing in himself he might perform far better than most think, even if he doesn't win.

I doubt fighting "that Italian guy" will matter one iota.

Here's what I think will happen: DeGale will punch Bute in the face. Bute will remember that he very much dislikes getting punched in the face. He will then get that rabbit-in-the-headlights look and go into survival mode. DeGale will be mostly dominant and Bute will be on the back-foot fighting conservatively. And although DeGale does have a tendency to take his foot off the gas, I'm pretty sure he will catch up with Bute down the stretch. I find it very difficult to make a case for a Bute win and can only see him getting stopped, maybe even early Froch-style.

That was 2012. He'd be the favorite if he fought DeGale 3 years ago but at this point he can't just come off retirement and beat a prime DeGale who's in my opinion the best SMW right now. Edwards fight was an accident for Jack who's otherwise a good fighter but DeGale will outbox him and decision him.

We shall see when the fights happen.

Badou Jack has proved himself a competent world-level operator, but I can't help thinking of the Edwards KO. He was wiped-out in the first round. Maybe it will prove to be one of those rare temple shots that can discombobulate a fighter, and he goes on to prove he is made of sturdier stuff than that KO would suggest, which he has being doing since, tbf. And he has good fundamentals. He will be a much sterner test for DeGale, imo.

He will, but like you I still have some doubts about him too. Anthony in my opinion is a totally mediocre fighter and Groves has his limitations as well. This will really show what he's made of.

Very good discussions here, mostly all with valid points in my opinion.

As much as I like Bute, I have a feeling he's not robust enough to handle a guy like Degale which has all sorts of tools and is extremely versatile. If Bute wins, it will be via strong strong counter left and I think he knows that is his best weapon... a brutal counter. another possibility will be to be extremely technical and keep Degale into his own tactical rhythm for 12 rounds and to get the home win. Degale though would be wiser and I feel he would start being the aggressor trying to replicate Froch's strategy.

Bute better be extremely ready for this fight. If he's not, he's going to get beat hard.

I'm ringside for this fight. I hope Bute wins. If he doesn't, I wish Degale the best because he's becoming a very talented well rounded young boxer with a lot of hope. In 2-3 years, it would be nice to see him and Ward go at it.

Good luck to both fighters for this one.

I don't think Bute will be able to handle the speed of Degale. I remember Bute being a very awkward southpaw kind of like Degale. I just can't help seeing Bute being punch shy against the ropes when Degale throws those wide overhand lefts.

Dirrell, how can I say it, was not on his prime. The 2 other victories are still fantasies.

If Degale tries to fight like Froch, he'll be in trouble. He is not Froch. I don't see Bute being afraid of Degale. He's not beast enough. If Bute can be at 80% of what he was, he'll win. If he's afraid, almost any good fighter would win against him.

Bute now sounds like a wounded animal and that makes him very dangerous.

But if he does go on to beat those fighters on their own turf, he can make a case for being in the P4P list. I want to see him then fight Murray, rematch Groves, and then he'll definitely be on there.

Jack + Degale woudlnt fill out MGM on their own. This is an undercard fight yes?
