DeGale vs Khatchikian this weekend ....

I don't think DeGale really believes in his 'engine'. He fights like there is a part of him that doesn't want to commit for fear of gassing. Personally, I think he probably trains within a comfort zone and integrates a few bad habits because of it. That'll come from sticking with McDonnell for all these years. If he doesn't switch trainers then at some point in his life I think he will come to really regret it. People need a change to approach the sport in a different way, with new ideas - not because they don't like or are 'selling out' their current trainer. Someone needs to have this chat (for the millionth time) with Degale.

 

Some good positives about Degale,but a few negatives.Hes been the distance a few times,plenty of class,but I worry that he always seems to be talking about injuries.I think he should get a straight shot at Bika,good chance of winning,but not an easy fight.Bika has fought in much better class.But for George Groves,you wouldn't be too impressed with the names on his record,but his showing suggests he can do it in top class.

 

At least DeGale is keeping busy and has decent exposure on Channel Five but I do worry when he talks about "switching off" during fights. At world level you can't afford to switch off for a second.

 

Im allways harsh on Degale saw a interview he did on BT Sport this week on how he is matured with 12 rounds fights. Allright saying that but when it comes down to the big fights could he get the ko. At the minute no.

Think Big Fat Mick is killing his career.

 

How does he get on with Bika?

 

I thought he looked better than he did in his last fight. He still makes mistakes but I think there is an element of fighting to the level of the opponent. Hopefully we'll see how he does against some known people soon.

 

So is he the mandatory for the fight with Bika now or is he going to have to fight somebody else ?

 

From what I could gather in the interview Mick Hennessy is going to apply for a straight shot after Jack went down,but possibility of eliminator with Chavez.Either way,things are looking good.

 

what is it with these elite amateurs none of them can punch ,Degale,Campbell,Agogo,billy joe ect all weak punchers

 

May of just been class of opponent but Groves always seems to put on a better display, can't see Khatchikian going any where past 5 rounds with Groves. DeGale and Groves now seem leagues apart

 

Degale to be fair probably wasn't that motivated for this fight and was trying different things, against better opposition I think we will see the best of him.

 

I recorded it and watched the fight last night and i fought it was good competitive fight.
Khatchikan put in a great effort, but DeGales class showed in the end. James crisp body shots finally took their toll on the tough Dutchman. You can see James was trying different things in there and he took too many shots because of it, but he was trying to please the crowd at the same time.
I think if James gets Bika you will see a more focused performance from him, but he will need to be at the top of his game to win. Hopefully he gets that fight next.
