wow magee being seriously underated on here. Domestic level? hes only ever been stopped by bute and froch, whilst giving an excellent acount of himself. Magee would easily beat Smith etc at 168
Magee would be a huge test. IMO this guy is proven at world level. Booth said something interesting after the fight..... He said "don't celebrate strengths, be aware of and work on weaknesses." All McDonnell ever seemed to do was celebrate his strengths and add a bit of conditioning. This is why IMO he is the wrong man for degale. I'll get caned for this but I could actually see Enzo Calzaghe being the right man for degale. Not least to get his footwork working. Obviously due to the Frank thing this is not an option.
No he doesnt. Magee has fought better and more experienced fighters than Degale before. Its a 50/50 fight to me. Magee would actually have a decent chance of winning it.
Magee is a tough fight and there is no way he will fight Degale next, I would be so suprised...:yep. Degale needs a couple of confidence fights...:yep At this stage I would fancy Magee to beat Chunky, it's just not the right time...:good
magee fight is all risk no reward right now. ****** wont take any 50-50 fights for degale for a while now. it will be names not tests. roy jones jnr anyone??
whats the big fight he has been talking about then. i dont think magee is a big fight. what big fights could he make. Abraham??
It's ****ing weird what's going on with these lads. Sounds like he can't afford to get them on without PPV money and even then can't afford the right opponents. Even when they are at domestic title level there'll be trouble getting fights made. Groves was a pretty unique example in that there was history between the 2.... someone like Gavin vs whoever is the British champion is just a trade fight, and the champion will rightly want decent money as Frankie would be getting. Eubank might have been right questioning their hunger.
roy jones hasnt fought at 168 in 15 years, and Degale isnt even a big super middleweight so i dont see it taking place at 175.
I've read an interview with W@rren where he admits (claims?) that because of the lucrative contracts they are on he can't afford to give them any more fights than he is doing. In effect, although they are getting less fights for more money, the fighters have signed contracts that are hindering their longterm development.
I'd imagine that's probably true.... it's definitely not something to go round admitting when people are on the case accusing you of not keeping lads busy. I'm not sure where these deals come from, when really they shouldn't be on that much more than other lads that turn pro. I mean, it's not as if there are TV stations Q'ing up to sign fighters, is it? And they'd all be nobodies across the pond, in amongst the odd genuine article and the usual assortment of American hypejobs.
Magee's promoter confirms that rumours of Magee-Groves are just rumours; http://www.irish-boxing.com/stories/may11/may11_magee_groves.html
Spot on with the last line by Eubank about hunger and motivation with money not been an incentive...:good
