Degale - What belts in 2010?

I agree with the sentiments in this thread.

One of them usually ends up losing and the interest disappears.

What was the title situation like at 154 then, did one guy hold the British, another the WBO intercontinental, another the WBU, another the Commonwealth - and their paths never really crossed?

At least with a series of bouts the best guy could have been established and possibly had a run at Euro level, with a possible world title fight at the end of it.

 

Yep, they all at various times held a collection of "minor" titles but each of them had aspirations of better things and thought they had better options than to fight each other.

 

Almost exactly that mate. Roberts held the WBF, Farnell (then Tak) held the WBU, can't remember the others but you get the idea. All ended up losing and the interest evaporated. Sky were really behind Roberts at one time too, he's almost forgotten now.

We should wait til on has a few loses and the other is not at the level we wanted them to achieve.

 

If Frank sticks in Degale with Adamu I would give him some major props. Sure Adamu is there for the taking but Degale hasn't gone 12 rounds yet and Adamu has a very good chin which means Degale would have to be fit enough for the 12 which is a big step up from 4/6 rounds.

I'm one that thinks people focus too much on domestic fights and not enough at the bigger picture - such as Mitchell banging on about Khan etc - but there were half a dozen fighters all roughly as good as each other that seldom fought.

 

Where Khan and Mitchell are at the moment, you're right. they should forget about each other for the time being but in "the good old days" who was the better fighter would have been sorted out before now at Euro level before they went for world titles.

Honeyhgan had to see off Mittee before he was moved into world class, Kaylor couldn't get past Sibson or Graham to make his move etc....

 

The problem with "the bigger picture" is that it often leads to self delusion, which Sky help fuel. This trend of keeping prospects apart isn't always a good thing, a bit more domestic rivalry would breed a healthier scene imo. It will also engage fans who, instead of seeing their fighters compete with people they don't know (regardless of quality), they would see them in with other guys they've heard about and have seen fight.

 

BB, if you want see how good a domestic fight can be for UK boxing watch Kaylor-Christie, check out the intensity of the fighters, the atmosphere of the crowd and then try and remind yourself that it was "just" an eliminator for the British title!!!

 

I dont see Degale doing too much, over-rated and I just cant take the guy, not much to like, cant wait till he gets starched:!:

 

It might not be too long, he ****ed around and got caught with a couple of silly punches last night.

 

I don't like doing it and it doesn't happen very often but DeGale is one of the very few fighters that I'm going to watch hoping he'll get flattened.

 

A man of my own taste I too am waiting with baited breath, cause Degale has a Breidis Prescott written all over him
