Degale - What belts in 2010?

I know someone's already made a separate thread about this, but what was that ****ing entrance all about last night? At one point it looked like one of his entourage was going down to give him a blow job. Cringe worthy in the extreme.

 

I think a balance has to be struck.

My point regarding focusing too much on domestic matchups is when a guy is ready for world level (say) and there is another domestic fighter coming up on the rails - I guess Clev and Bellew is a fairish example.... is there a need to make that fight?

I guess allowing world champions to retain British titles or become mandatory if they lose.... as a relative newcomer it's clear the sport has changed a great deal in the past 20 years, loads of world titles, loads of 'back doors' into the top 10 to get a shot.... rather than seeking out the British and European route.

James needs to start getting the public and boxing punters on board. The best money he could spend right now is to hire a media publicist to enable him to develop his box office appeal away from the ring...:good

He may well be developing in his own ways with his boxing, but whilst he is still coming across the way he does, its no good...:barf

 

It's very interesting you should say that. Boxing News did a very good article about this very issue years back. The BBBofC kind of ****ed up when they said you couldn't hold any kind of 'world' title alongside the British or Commonwealth, in an attempt to discourage people fighting for them. In a perverse way, it gave the minor alphabets a kind of status. They should have saved that embargo for the 'big three' alone imo.

 

I just think they need to drastically cut the number of belts on offer.... create a situation where every fighter either reaches his level or gets a fair shake at doing so.

Barring bad style matchups a Euro level fighter should get to Euro level, I'd rather see that than domestic level fighters such as Gary Lockett and to a lesser extent (because he was better) Alex Arthur waiting around for a weak champion or getting an undeserved opportunity.

Scrap ''Masters'' titles
Scrap either ''Area'' or ''English/Scottish/Welsh'' titles
Scrap the Commonwealth

This brings me back to one of the last editions of Bunce Boxing Hour, where they compared the number of British champions that were by consensus the best in their division in the country, and it was shockingly low.

What I'd say is that you can hold the British title and challenge a foreigner for the European..... rather than vacating the British, possibly losing in the Euro and being out of the picture as a member of the ''who needs him'' club.

spot on. It is totally ****ed up he is being talked in terms of a potential title this year. He has proved **** all so far, and is no where as good as he thinks he is. He mya improve with time, as a lot of fighters do, but he will get burned when someone hits him back on the chin
