Yet another Colombian banger. This one seems to have a bit more skill than most, though. He's patient and unlike many of his national ilk actually bothers to defend himself while picking his spots and scanning for weaknesses to exploit. His punches are compact and explosive and he gets real snap on them in abstemiously short bursts. (thus able to conserve energy to load up the next one) He just took a step up in class earlier today against countryman Sergio Benavides, who entered with a 9-2 (6) record and had a few inches on Berrío. It was reportedly a "very nice action packed brawl with both clubbing away. Benavides hurt a few times but Berrio wasn't able to grind him down after that" (per 13thr) en route to a UD. This headlined a card shown on TeleCaribe, who actually stream all their content live on their website. I would've done a RBR on it and posted the link for everybody to watch it live but the whole event was over before I got home. (wrapped by 5:30pm local time in Barranquilla, strangely early...) Now after having taken on a domestic opponent with a pulse the next step will be to see him tested against some hardy South American journeymen. Let's see if he can prove his power versus, say, a well-traveled Argentine. Note: Boxrec has an incomplete record on him, with at least one bout from December of 2013 missing. Unless there are more omissions, that puts his current record as of today at 16-0 (11). Possibly...though I doubt it. Colombia has 228 active boxers of whom 5 have the surname Berrio, none related AFAIK. That and "Zuniga" are like the "Smith" and "Jones" of the country. Plus they're from two different cities 170km apart.
