Dejan Zlatičanin vs. Roberto Ramírez Uriarte

Thursday night, co-featuring on a DBE card in Astoria - the sport's first ever Montenegrin world champion (former WBC lightweight) returns to action for the first time in 2018. Since his lone professional defeat to Mikey García in January of last year, the aggressive southpaw has fought under 2 minutes - blitzing Colombian glass cannon Hevinson Herrera in mid-December.

The opponent is an archetypal Mexican body-banger (with an especially potent straight right downstairs, whence he derives his nickname and which scored many of his early career stoppages), heavy-handed & durable as well as tall and naturally a 140lber - but there is a gulf in class here on paper. He was kayoed in 2 by Abel Ramos, itself not that damning, but he also lost on points to Carlos Ocampo and drew with a losing-record journeyman (before, to be fair, knocking him out in a rematch).

The other co-main event is unbeaten Trinidadian prospect Mikkel LesPierre being fed a relatively easy assignment (for this stage of his development) in Gustavo David "The Puppy" Vittori of Argentina. Rounding out the card is Alicia Napoleon - long mooted as potentially a rival for Claressa Shields down the road - with a gimme/stay-busy mismatch of her own.

 

I'm still waiting to find out for sure whether or not this will be streamed or televised anywhere (likely on Lou DiBella's page on Facebook if nothing else). Will report here when I do.
