I mean in terms of divisional context.

Both are the best of the non greats within their division's history.

As for the over the limit fights de jesus was a top contender so a fight in the division above doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Had de jesus beat him at say 137 he has a valid claim for being the best out there.

Cuevas never beat an all time top LW, DeJesus beat Duran, big difference everything else aside

Yeah he but he never beat him as a lw which is where the divisional context comes in. P4p i'd put de jesus above cuevas but from a strictly divisional focus these two are the best of the non-greats in their respective divisions which is the comparison I was making.

No...DeJesus was the better man that particular night. He fought a really, really tight fight, found out the he could land his sneaky left hook well, planted Roberto on his ass and bossed the fight.

Duran adjusted and grew, DeJesus declined, and Duran swept the series.

I see a lot of similarities to Pacquiao-Morales, actually. One guy just wasn't quite ready for the other. When he was, he reversed the outcome.

A bit a pedantic, both were lightweights and Dejesus gained no advantage from the fight being above LW

Maybe it's so much that he gained but that duran lost something.

Either way it's far enough from the limit that i'm not convinced de jesus was the better lw at that time.

The only times they fought near the limit duran stopped him.

If rios and demarco fought next year at 139 pounds I wouldn't call the winner a better lw.

No. Great fighters lose to merely good fighters fighting out of their skin sometimes. It happens.

Yea Dejesus was the better LW at that time, Duran was actually the significantly bigger man. Years later after Duran improved he managed to beat DeJesus. Remember Duran was only 21 and wasn't yet at the peak of his powers. He also learnt from the defeat imo

That's where we disagree then because I think duran was the better lw and a loss in the next division doesn't convince me otherwise.

It very much depends on what you mean by a fluke .

Without a definition for FLUKE, the question can't be answered.
