Oscar: "This is my take on Bob Arum saying that Mosley has more of a household name," De La Hoya said. "Mosley's last pay-per-view in September, I think he drew about a thousand people and `Canelo' drew about 10,000 people. And I think `Canelo' drew probably 95 percent of the pay-per-view. "So Bob Arum is saying, `Well, Mosley's a more credible opponent because he's more marketable.' That's not true, that's not true at all. Marquez is the fighter who everybody knows and who everybody wants to see against Pacquiao." De La Hoya is not happy with Mosley at the moment, so his comments should be taken as such. Mosley was promoted by Golden Boy for five years, but recently announced he was a free agent and could fight for the promoter of his choosing. The way De La Hoya sees it, he made Mosley millions of dollars and he's upset Mosley walked. "I feel hurt by it," De La Hoya said. "I mean, obviously, I don't really let my personal feelings get in the way of the job we have to do. We want to do the best job possible for the fighters. When fighters do things like that, it hurts. "It's sad because they don't realize what we've accomplished for them. There's a lot of work and you put a lot of energy into it and then you get slapped in the face." And now Oscar is saying that Mosley is not a draw and is pushing for a Marquez-Pacquiao trilogy. So is Marquez more marketable than Mosley? They only had 4,920 live gate attendance, with Andre Berto and Caballero on the undercard.
If Saul Alvarez becomes a big star then all these ginger kids will start thinking it's ok to be ginger.
Alvarez IS more marketable than Mosley, but he's not more popular right now. They need to hurry up and get him in there with a popular old fart to help pass the torch. Once Alvarez gets comfortable enough with English to do interviews in English, watch out! He'll be everywhere. That said, Oscar is ****ing ******ed for saying all this stuff out loud. He's setting things up so that he loses Alvarez to Top Rank when his GBP contract expires in a few years.
Considering that Mayweather's recent ppv appearances came against both JMM and Mosley, we actually do have a reasonable gauge to compare who is the better 'B-Side' ppv draw between the 2 fighters.
I think Alvarez probably is more popular than Shane right now. If they both fought the same opponent, I'm sure Canelo would sell more tickets.
That can not be true. Only 5000 people in the crowd for the Marquez-Katsidas fight????? Man Boxing is really struggling in the US. If those guys fought in Britain there would be easily 10000+ fans guaranteed in the arena.
I've said it for years, despite his big name, even out side of boxing.. Shane has never been the draw.. his biggest fights were all because of the guy he was fighting, not him.
Dude its scary how popular Canelo is. Usually I have to let my coworkers know whos who on the undercards of big fights but everyone already know who Canelo is already. Reminds me of Chavez big time and not so much DLH although he does get alot of female attention. If Pac fought Canelo right now it would do good numbers, just imagine in 2 years?
