If he takes this fight, he damn well better win it. He can't afford another loss, I don't care if he is past his prime. This would leave him with far too many losses to top fighters. The "ifs" and the "buts" and the "well"s only work so many times. Lets take a look:

Lost to Mosley - BUT put up a very good fight
Lost to Trinidad - IF he fought the last 3 rounds he would've won
Lost to Mosley - WELL, most think he won
Lost to Hopkins - BUT Hopkins was much bigger
Lost to Floyd - BUT Hoya was past his best and inactive, IF he fought him in his prime it would be different.

Thats already 5! Thats already more "explainable and excusable" losses then you're supposed to have :deal He will be badly damaged if he loses again. He better know what he is doing if he takes this fight :deal

Why? There is no shame in losing to Oscar, I'd actually expect it. Oscar might be a little too big and strong for his style to be effective on :deal

Cotto couldn't demand milk in his coffee without his management to talk for him

But I agree, Oscar would look like Adrian Brodey in the pianist if he tries to make 147lbs :deal He'd show up at the weigh in, step on the scale and cough up dust :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

Hoya always loses to elite fighters...and he'll lose to Cotto.

At his age and the point where he's at in his career - I don't think he would really care about another lost. He's looking to retire by the end of the year.

What we do know is this:

If he wins - then another fight with Floyd or any other Mega-Star would be done by the end of the year. He get's paid.

If he loses - then he helps Co-Promote the Cotto/Mayweather fight - which would be hugh. And guess what - He get's paid.

It's more of a Win-Win Situation for him - so bring it on.

The funny thing (and very unfair thing) about DLH is that even if he got knocked out by Cotto in 2 rounds, casual fans would still want to see him again and would still buy his PPVs. It'll take a few huge losses where he looks like absolute **** before he's not a big attraction anymore.

Like when he lost to Felix Sturm or when he lost to B-hop?

I don't think they will ever stop wanting to see him - but as a real boxing fan - most of us are tired of him. He either fights Cotto or retire - cause there's no one else for him or anyone else I would like to see him fight.

The hardcore fans want to see Mayweather-Cotto, not Mayweather-De La Hoya II.

Hopefully Cotto beats De La Hoya if they fight.

I love these threads. Alot of you seem to spit out the same old crap you read on numerous sites from the same type of posters....the only fact that needs to be displayed in this thread is...most of you think FM is the best fighter P4P...period....so, when Dela Hoya fights a great fight against Floyd and in alot of peoples opinions should have gotten a draw....you dismiss him quickly in these threads as a guy who should retire...LOL....is he not elite still if he fought the best boxer on the planet to almost a draw....and lets add the fact that Floyd was not willing to stop back peddling for a moment to throw more than one punch at a time for most of the fight....now everyone is talking about Cotto being too good for Delahoya....how so....Cotto won't run from Oscar...will come straight at him....so straight that Oscar will land alot of powerful jabs flush...might land enough to bait him into a feignt jab/left hook combo....I like Oscar's odds at winning this possible fight should it become a reality......and it isn't all about the money for him...he has a **** load of money already...he has alot of pride as a fighter......and I think he is sticking around to reclaim some respect for the losses he sustained recently....
my prediction in a Cotto/Dela Hoya fight.....Dela Hoya TKO 8
His final fight will be a rematch with Mayweather. Dela Hoya will lose that one to a 12 round split decision again.

:deal , pretty much. Oscar cant beat Floyd and he knows that, he tried to get every conceivable advantage in the world and still lost. its funny that he made FLoyd fight at 154, but yet he is willing to dam near kill himself to make 147 to fight Cotto. He knew all along he couldnt beat Floyd, so he thought by making him gain weight he would have a better chance.

Mayweather vs Cotto must happen. Would b bigger than mayweather vs Hatton IMO

Looks like Fraud will sit most of 2008 out anyway. Let Cotto and DLH face off in May. . . hopefully Cotto wins and Fraud grows some balls by the end of the year.
