Did he also steal big fights in the heavier weight classes in the past by fighting bigger men? It's a rehtorical question...but NO...he didn't "Steal" anything from boxing fans. he gave us yet anther HUGE even. Sure there may have been other exciting fights out there but you can't knock a guy for making some money and fighting the best....even if the best is considered a small man. People just like to hate on Oscar b/c he's an easy target....but honestly most of his critisim is unwarranted.

well Oscar himself said at the NY press conference that in this fight he has ''nothing to gain and everything to lose''

"he gave us yet anther HUGE even" .. right like Oscar fighting Pacquiao is something to be thankful for.

serious question here, if DLH threw out his back at training camp, a month before the fight.

besides all the people paying to go live

how many boxing fans worldwide do you think would be disappointing about DLH/Pac not happening?

I mean yes he's fighting the best and making a lot of money for it.

but in DLH's own words at a press conference none the less he said there's "nothing to gain"

so me as a boxing fan, why would I care?

Simple...if you are, as you state you are a "Boxing fan" then you are a fan of the sport, the competition, the excitment and the unexpected. Just b/c there isn't a belt on the line doesn't mean you have no vested interest in a fight of this magnitude.....As a fan you want fights that are interesting..something that will spark the imagination....SURE...Most are already saying it's gonna be a blowout....They also said that when Buster Douglas was a 40 to 1 underdog in 1990.....yet I'm sure most "boxing fans" watched that fight. They may have expected the outcome do to the odds but in boxing you should always expect the unexpected.....or just enjoy the fight and be surprised.

what everyone supporting DLH and this fight is forgetting

Oscar De La Hoya fights so infrequently that all the attention and money and fans his fights get mean very little in the long term fix of things

    lemme explain it

May of 2007 World Awaits DLH/Mayweather . very big fight, great promotion, sold well on PPV, despite the hype up that this was the "fight to save boxing"

December of 2007 Mayweather/Hatton. Floyd bounced back with another high name opponent at the end of the year.

Oscar announces his big plans for a 08 rematch with Floyd .. 1st part was a 150 pd tune up vs Forbes

    which leads to DLH/Pacquiao

**don't you realize that it's just the same old formula of Oscar hyping up these big money fights .. to lead into the next one?

sure he brings attention/publicly to boxing, but that lasts for what .. all of 3-4 months ... then onto the next over priced crap

hell Schaefer and company are already talking about DLH-Hatton.

I agree but sadly it's not about the best fights anymore it's about money and oscar isn't capable of beating top guys his size anymore so we have this fight instead. oscar will win by tko i have no doubt and it won't harm manny any. nobody really thinks he will be able to hurt ODL. and in all reality pac has already been beaten by jmm. and even he knows that. and for the record i can't wait to see odl knock pacs head around like a bobble doll

I disagree. At the time PBF fought DLH, DLH was seen as the biggest thread to PBF out there...and the scorecards proved he was. I would also much rather see a very intriguing fight in Pac-DLH than Pac-Diaz/Nate or JMM rematch. Id like Pac-Hatton but that will happen straight after.

    ^ no it won't

    DLH-Hatton would trump Pac/Hatton

and besides .. why would Hatton want to face the loser of DLH/Pacquiao?

**what's so intriguing about Pac/DLH again?

either the size + power will be too much and Manny gets stopped

or DLH's too old, can't pull the trigger and loses.

just because Pac-Marquez III and or Campbell/Diaz vs Pacquiao don't have the hype that goes with the fights .. doesn't mean they wouldn't make good fights

    Marquez/Campbell/or Diaz at 135 vs a 135 Pac-man is much more intriguing

then a freak show 147 clash between DLH and Pacquiao.

it absolutely does have to do with what I posted

your saying that "doesn't mean you have no vested interest in a fight of this magnitude."

and im saying I don't care for DLH.

    how does that not relate?

and that's Admiral Obvious to you

"then you are a fan of the sport, the competition, the excitement and the unexpected. Just b/c there isn't a belt on the line doesn't mean you have no vested interest in a fight of this magnitude.....As a fan you want fights that are interesting..something that will spark the imagination...

yes im a fan of the sport, and yes I like competition, excitement, but what you failed to consider, and I think this point might have completely flew over your head

as a fan of boxing DLH/Pac doesn't excite or interest me, and most certainly doesn't spark my imagination

not hard to get, but I guess you didn't get it since you thought my point had no relevance.

This isn't anything new to the "Business Side" of boxing. DLH has a formula that he's taken from many of the top promoters that came befor him. The PPV prices are crazy but if people are willing to pay then I can't hate on the guy. I'd do the same thing if I thought I'd get away with it. It sounds more like you dislike the person (DLH) than really having an issue with the fights that are made. Which is fine, but it shows in your posts.

Thank you for hammering my point home bro. Whether you like or "DISLIKE" a boxing which is in your case...you are more less a fan of fighter(s) not of boxing.....

You state yourself that you don't care for dlh...which is fine, but as a FAN OF THE SPORT...even if you dislike a fighter or his personality it won't get in the way of you enjoying the "COMPETITION", "Brutality" or unexpected outcome of a match.

I don't like John Ruiz.....but I'll still watch his fights if it meets some of the criteria I like to see in a boxing match. It comes with being a boxing fan....not just a fan of a couple particular fighters.

well what if im not watching the fight altogether?

and yes it does get in the way of the competition, because im not watching it

so have fun with those smileys :lol::lol:

because im not watching it

I see it as a crappy match up, and I chose to not watch it.
