No one is nit picking. You're claiming this is a prime for prime matchup and then you turn around and say Hopkins' optimal weight is 175lbs. This is completely false. A prime for prime matchup for these two is not competitive being that one guy fought at 160 in his prime and the other guy fought at 185.

Hopkins was always a big MW, he was usually in the low 170's on fight night, to say he was prime at 175lbs is not incorrect if by 175 you're referring to his weight and not his weight class. Marciano on the other hand was a natural 185 who routinely fought guys in the 190-200lbs. range.

 

I don't believe that's correct. He usually stayed in the 160's between fights.

well reg, we're going to disagree on a pound or two, but to say 170 is not a stretch if you round one way or the other, it's also not a stretch to say he could have in his prime made 175 if he wanted to just like pacquiao made 147 straight from LW. for the purpose of this discussion he's still giving up 10-15lbs to a natural 185 Marciano who isn't "trying" to "make" anything other then what he already weighs.

Marciano would win by Knockout. Hopkins just would not have the strength to keep the Rock off him, and Hopkins has not been hit anywhere as hard as he would be in this fight. I personally think this would be a bit of a mismatch and Hopkins would be seriously banged up at the end of the fight.

How about Tommy Hearns v Joe Louis at CW then, seeing as both fought in or around that weight-class at some point in their careers.
