From my perspective, I think Pavlik should be stripped of his titles. Not out of spite or anything, but just because by the time he gets back in the ring he won’t have defended either belt in a year. It’s only right that the field is opened up. If he’s as good as he once was he’ll be back on top in no time. He’s right to call the fight off though, but there should be some compensation to Team Williams for any expenses. Pavlik reneged on the deal, validly, but still reneged. There’s normally insurance for these things. I hope Kelly recovers soon, but think he’ll be left behind by the SMWs and the WWs. MW is so weak, it’s going to be hard to care if he comes back and dominates.
It's not irregular for fighters to have just one mandatory defence for a year. Kessler, for instance, was out for 11 months before he fought Perdomo. And considering this break has been largely out of injury than laziness, it would be stupid to strip him.
First things first. Pavlik worked himself up the ranks and fought everyone they put in front of him, so you posters that are saying hes scared of PW is ludacris. Also, Loew stated after the B-Hop fight that he would never again put his fighter in the ring under 100%, well hes sticking to his promise. As bad as this sucks, I understand why its happening. It will all work out in the end.
Great post, Einstein. Kelly is injured and so the fight is called off and so he's a "****ing idiot". You should be banned for supreme stupidity. Period. :-(
They should have Williams fight the #1 contender for the interim middleweight title, and when Pavlik can fight, he fights the winner within a certain period of time. If Kelly doesn't fight within that alloted time, he should get stripped. The alphabet commissions need to stop making concessions for Kelly. Injuries or not, he can't keep holding on to the titles if he's not gonna defend them.
better to **** off everyone on this board than to ruin your career by fighting someone like paul with one hand and losing. pauls fans have a right to be upset that this didnt happen and that paul has sat around like he has. he deserves a big fight for big money but unless ssm steps up and honors his word to show that he's the #1 ww around, it aint gonna happen.
:think an awkward southpaw...hmmm paul will knock him out in round 1 of the rematch :yep you know i'm joking fellas!!!! that's not a bad stay busy fight at all. i think he may make as much money fighting one of the other middles for a strap though which would help him get another fight at mw under his belt. i know hbo lowballed a kp/sturm fight but hey, i'm sure that was about as much money as paul could expect from a martinez fight....and he would dominate sturm, imo.
Martinez will do well but should fall short.....I was hoping PW would fight Sturm....then my fighter can pick up the regular scraps off the world title floor :yep
well, considering sturm probably still has a bad taste in his mouth from the last time he came over here...i'm sure the fight would have to be in germany but that would just mean even more experience for paul. he would win, would do it overseas in front of a hostile crowd, and would get that much more comfortable at mw. if hbo was willing to put sturm in there w/ kelly (albiet for low $$), i'm sure they would at least throw dollar amount at this fight if it gets brought up.
He hasn't missed any mandatories, so what's the problem? He defended his belt against the required party (i.e. Rubio) in February. Kessler was out for a year before he fought Perdomo and that was legitimate. As long as KP takes a mando at the start of next year, he retains his belts. Besides, it's not as if there's a bunch of deserving, elite contenders lining up at the top of the division. 160 is like a ghost town, and the ghost is the only one around!
