I disagree with his reading of the 10 round must system. You start off with a presumption that someone will get 10, but knockdowns work the same as point deductions for fouls. If there were two fouls on each side, the round would be 9-8 in favor of whomever won the round. I had the round even, and with the 2 knockdowns I scored it 9-9. Williams won most of the round, but the knockdown he scored was more of a slip (caused by a punch...I know, sounds kind of nonsensical) while Martinez' was more substantive.
As far as I know, matching KDs offset the whole deduction thing. It's not the same as point deductions for fouls where they must be enforced. The first was a tremendous action round, but there were three factors in scoring it that made it very easy in the end. 1) Williams put on incredible pressure in the first 1:30, which seemed to really surprise Martinez, leading to the off balance but very legit Williams KD. Edge to Williams. 2) Martinez landed a huge counter with about 1:00 left in the round that took all kinds of steam out of Paul. Edge to Martinez. 3) Martinez finished the round by scoring the harder of the two KDs by far. Edge to Martinez. Lederman was right on the money, it was a 10-9 round to Martinez.
I scored it 115-113 for Martinez, but thought rounds 8 and 12 could have gone to Williams making it 115-113 for him. rounds 1-3 for Martinez, 4-7 for Williams, 8-10 for Martinez, 11 for Williams, 12 for Martinez.
I spoke to a judge about this once and he said that it would be a 10-9 round. I'm surprised that two judges gave the first to Williams, I thought Martinez was effective and the late kd of Williams clinched it.
imo a 10-9 is right... i saw the first round only.. williams owned teh first round cept for when he was knocked down... so i guess either its a tie round or 8-9... if thats even possible
This is where you went off track. Knockdowns do not work the same as fouls. This is not a matter of opinion but is actually part of the rules (hence the word MUST in "10 point must system). In every round, someone must get at least 10 points (the winner). If the round is even, it is scored 10-10. If there is a foul for which the ref deducts a point, it is only AFTER the round is scored that you deduct the point. For example, if you were going to give Fighter A the round over Fighter B (10-9), and the ref deducted a point from Fighter A during that round, your scorecard would read... FIGHTER A______________ FIGHTER B 10 (-1)___________________ 9 ...rather than actually writing 9-9. This is because in a 10-point must system, the winner of the round must be awarded 10 points. These calculations are then altered by any automatic point deductions. KD's are NOT automatic point deductions.
i had martinez up by 1 or 2 rounds mainly because i was scoring the fight on clean, effective punching and was very impressed by martinez's boxing. i can easily see certain rounds going either way though. i was just more impressed with martinez overall. williams was just kind of using his size/length and doing what he always does: pressuring and throwing a lot of punches, nothing all that special from him. martinez was outboxing williams most of the fight. he put on a great display of boxing skill, intelligence, and overall talent to neutralize a lot of the things that make williams so great from 147-154.
the third judge needs to be banned for life. he clearly went into that fight ready to hand it to williams. what a complete ****ing joke. there should be an investigation into whether or not he was paid off...
Bazookajab: If Lederman and Carter scored the round 10-10, it would have been a SD for Williams. It would only have been a draw if Carter scored the round for Martinez and Lederman scored the round even or for Martinez.
i had it more or less exactly like this. martinez definitely would have had it if he hadn't been off balance and gone down in the first. i still can't believe that happened. it looked like williams barely touched his shoulder and back of his neck and he just kind of stumbled down. made for a hell of an exciting round though!
