Rough stoppage but you're supposed to get up at 8. Ref- 8! -stays down- Ref- 9! -stays down Ref- TE- -gets up and acts upset he got stopped- I guess he thought the ref was supposed to say nine and a half.
Heavyweight sideshow underway. Francesco Mireles 5-4 vs. Garret Simon 1-0 I've got two inches on Mireles. He has 82 lbs on me. Mireles pushes a jab sideways - seriously, the guy's squared up but rotated 90 degrees from his opponent :blood - and goes down from a jab to the chin and a clubbing right to the back of his fat neck. Mireles tries to discourage Simon from jumping in by flurrying from a crouch. It really looks like a fat kid trying to flail away at a bully. Mireles gets jiggled with a lazy slap to his gut, and it STAGGERS him. He leans against the ropes, and Simon contemplates letting him off the hook for a moment, then comes in and wails for a moment before the ref decides to restore dignity to the precedings.
I rewound the DVR five times. Just after 9, he was still on a knee. Waiting and shooting up like that, you're playing with fire. His one gripe could be that the count started a bit deep. It had been two seconds since he went down and the count started at "four". That has nothing to do with him trying to be cute and shoot up at nine-and-three-quarters.
Guys, that's all she wrote. No more free live televised boxing for a week. Between now and March 6, the only free live televised boxing is FNF and Fox Sports Net cards. :verysad
People ripping on ESPN should give some credit for FNF this year so far. We've had some great matching making: Karmazin v D. Miranda Jesse Brinkley v Curtis Stevens Glen Johnson v Yusaf Mack and now Ji Hoon Kim v Tyrone Harris All interesting match ups.... and good mixes of styles.
I haven't seen anybody ripping on ESPN, they're doing a good job. I'm just greedy and would like to see HBO, Showtime, and even Versus also step up there boxing programming (in terms of quantity, unless it's going to be at the expense of quality). There shouldn't be a Friday or Saturday night with less than one fight card, preferably two or more.
Oh I forgot this post. J.R. was probably kidding. Neither Kim or Harris was in the top ten in their division before tonight, and probably haven't cracked it in the last couple hours, but bums? Five losses = terrible records? He had to be kidding.
That was a fun card, and it's a guilty pleasure to watch the **** follow-up fights that guys get on air when the semi- and main- are short. I mean Mirales had no business being in the ring.. but I loved watching the fat guy go down ...as long as they aren't showing these fights because the card is ****.. but because they have time to fill. That card looked a little shitty on paper, but it was a fun watch.. the Kostya-looking guy had a tough test against a former champ that will end up being valuable as he moves on... that and he does seem to have at least a decent set of whiskers.. which is good to know. He still needs to learn to move his head, and he is going to have trouble with movement.. but guy is tough. Kim will just be fun to watch.. I thought he was ****ed after 2 rounds.. but he never quit.. I hope they don't try to rush him into some kind of big fight.. as he won't win.. but I'd love to watch him again on ESPN2 cards.. as a guilty pleasure.. you want to root for him.
Just a little pointer Kim isn't a Lightweight he is a Super Featherweight which is definately a good thing because Super Feather sucks hard right now it needs all the decent fighters it can get. Hopefully HBO will allow Guerrero to have a few defense's at the weight against guys like Kim before a few of the big names from Featherweight move up.
He'd be a big super featherweight. I don't have a problem with him campaigning at 135, as long as he steers clear of the top ten for a little while.
