While you're at it, check out both M'Baye fights, Witter, Rees, and Gonzalez. He's a very underrated fighter, and by extension a close loss to him should not be held against Maidana (although, as per my earlier post, Maidana would later wind up becoming a bit overrated due to the Ortiz outcome). He is an 11/2 underdog against Devon Alexander. While I do favor Cory Spinks' protege in that one, 11/2 does not reflect how close on paper this really is. I'd make it more like 11/8.
Angulo had a hard time Julio and got schooled by Cintron, dude is gonna get his ass handed to him whenever he steps up again.
This is exactly my feeling. I don't rate either Julio or Cintron very highly, either - which makes the above facts all the more tarnishing. His power and chin are undeniable, though. With those assets he might be able to overachieve, secure & protect a belt for a while, depending on mandatory strength.
Maidana is significantly better than Angulo, IMO. More power, more angles, much quicker (which is strange to say, but Angulo really is slow as molasses), able to sustain volume for longer, better defense. The only place where Angulo has the edge is chin.
After seeing Angulo vs. Cintron and seeing how Angulo avoided a fight for a bigger pay day I stopped caring for him. Angulo ain't ****. Maidana is a better figther. Cintron outboxed Angulo. Come on.
It's pretty close, but Angulo is a brawler who can punch and actually has abit of skill, while Maidana's a puncher who can brawl abit. I pick Angulo because he does both well and doesn't seem one dimensional compared to Maidana. No one since Derrick Jefferson fight with so much conviction behind one punch like Maidana though. I'm not sayin Angulo is the better fighter than Maidana, but he seems a more complete fighter than Maidana. Neither is particularly big on defense tho.
