Roy Jones Junior = After Ruiz fight Evander Holyfield = After Tyson fights Bernard Hopkins = After the Middleweight reign Manny Pacquiao = After De La Hoya fight Floyd Mayweather Junior = After Hatton fight
Hey, they're all still active! There's time. Maybe if they all had a round-robin. The winner would probably crack a top 100.
ohh I know it. IB is a great poster and the best RBR guy. not to mention one of the most ardent fight fans I have ever seen. but I wonder if he rates some of the current greats a little low.
Hey man, fashions make fights. Let us do the dance. Jones vs. Holyfield - 12 rounds of circling and mutual praise consisting of "Hey, nice physique!", "You too!", "How many hours do you work out a week?", "Like two, it's mostly genetics...", "Yeah, I HEARD that!", "Hey, do you want to hit up the strip later? We don't even have to get dressed, we'll just hit the casinos in our trunks and show off our physiques to all the cocktail waitresses...so we can impregnate some of them...and by some I mean all...", "Cocktail...cockatiel...cockatrice...OH ****! I left my rooster pen open! All my cocks got out!!", "Whatever man, I got to let my **** out...my sperms are tingling...", "I like watching birds die...", etc. UNANIMOUS DRAW. Jones vs. Hopkins (III) - The action in the rubber-match is scaled down proportionately from the rematch as from the first match to the rematch. Harold Lederman tenders his resignation in round 8. SPLIT DRAW. Jones vs. Pacquiao - Roy says "I hear you're pretty fast" and then realizes his shoelaces have been tied together and he is standing alone in the ring. Pacquiao distracts the ref with his attempts to climb back in the ring after having Cintroned while Bobby jumps in and delivers a blow-blow, rendering Jones unable to continue. PACQUIAO TKO1 JONES (later reviewed and changed to JONES DQ1 PACQUIAO, and later changed to NC1 after Bob Arum writes a blank check which ultimately bankrupts him). Jones vs. Mayweather - The leaping hook and the check hook land at the same time. DOUBLE KO. Holyfield vs. Hopkins - A Hoyle deck is produced from out of nowhere (and by nowhere, I mean from under Evander's cup) and amazingly the two are able to play a game of bridge while balancing their sweaty cards on their forearms while circling and throwing a few slow, arthritic jabs. Holyfield wins the game by 10 tricks, and Holyfield wins the match 118-110, but the *event*...the event is a MAJORITY DRAW. Holyfield vs. Pacquiao - Holyfield introduces himself by saying "Hi, I am former world champion Evander Holyfield. I fought Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis in the 1990s." to which Pacquiao replies "Iiiii...foughted veddy good in 1990's...foughted, ahh, Chatchai Sasakul and ahh, Medgoen Singsurat..." - interrupted by Holyfield headbutting his feet, having passed out while listening to him. The referee applies the count and Holyfield's people take him back to the home where they have more comfortable napping accommodations. PACQUIAO KO1 HOLYFIELD Holyfield vs. Mayweather - Mayweather ducks the first Holyfield punch and remains in this position for the next thirty minutes (even in his corner, foregoing his stool). Holyfield awkwardly swats the air above Mayweather's back and then tries headbutting it...to no avail. He announces that he is too old for this **** and gives up before the start of the 9th. MAYWEATHER RTD8 HOLYFIELD Hopkins vs. Pacquiao - Hopkins tries to land a liver shot but winds up stooping down too low and referee Mills Lane misinterprets this as BHop taking a knee. Hopkins stumbles trying to snap himself erect and does a faceplant, so Lane starts the count over again. An embarrassed and agitated Holyfield glares at his opponent, who gives him a big Pacman grin and says "Joe Calzaghe behind you! He dry hump you!!", causing Hopkins to spin around violently and fall on his ass. He is down three times in the 1st round and comes back to win every subsequent round. CONTROVERSIAL DRAW. Hopkins vs. Mayweather - FOTC. Adalaide Byrd has it 120-108 Hopkins. Melvina Lathan has it 120-108 Mayweather. Julie Lederman has it 116-116 (four rounds each and four rounds even) - making it a DRAW! Pacquiao vs. Mayweather - ESB crashes for one full year, during which time IB continues to frantically refresh his page and "resubmit information" on a RBR post...and eventually dies of starvation. :verysad (never knowing that Mayweather won via 10th round TKO)
Roy Jones - with the Toney fight Evander Holyfield - at the very latest he proved his greatness when he regained the title against Bowe, but possibly before then. Bernard Hopkins - he became a good champion when he beat Trinidad. Not sure if he was an ATG though. Pacquiao and Mayweather I don't know about.
Its hard to say, based on your criteria. Many consider MAB/Morales/JMM ATGs and they simply did less. Its interesting to think many rated JMM higher than Manny on P4P lists only 2years ago
At Cruiserweight, Holyfield was a great from beating Qawi in their brutal 15 round war back in '86. At Heavyweight, to me Holyfield proved proved his greatness in the first legendary war with Bowe. It was a truly inspirational losing effort, as he demonstrated a boundless warrior spirit & underappreciated skills. This may be controversial, but to me, Holy earned a top 15 ATG ranking at Heavyweight from this fight: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPdmAI30oOs[/ame] After regaining the title in the rematch with Big Daddy, which was another epic war, I believe Holy had done enough for a top 10 ATG place at Heavyweight, so i'm always puzzled to see him rated outside the top 10, even after his monumental upset victory against Tyson in '96.
:dealTHIS - Although I have Holy at number 13 on my heavyweight rankings which makes him an ATG great in my book - it's not just the top 10 heavys who are ATG's
Roy Jones Junior: From 1994 to 2003. Jones was posibily the most talanted boxer in the world. We can go back to his 94 win over James Toney as his break through. He had beaten Hopkins in 1993. I think it took his first round knock out win over Montell Griffen. In their second fight avenging a loss. To put him at the all time great stattus. Evander Holyfield: He has had a very good career but is not top 25 ATG. Bernard Hopkins: When he beat Felix Trinidad in 2001 Manny Pacquiao: When he stoped Hatton in the second round. Floyd Mayweather Junior: When he beat Diego Corrales.
