Earlier today saw a press conference take place in Japan to announce A sign Bee Vol 5, set for July 10 at the Korakuen Hall. The full card wasn't announced, but the main event was and one other fighter featuring on the card was also announced. The match that was announced was an interesting looking match up as former world champion Tomoki Kameda (33-2, 20) [亀田和毅] will face former world title challenger Ivan Morales (31-2, 19) in a bout that looks mouth watering on paper, with the two men having almost identical records. On paper it's hard to bet against the more proven Kameda, who is a world class fighter even if he is now more than 2 years removed from his last win at world level, but the match up is a good one and Morales won't be travelling to pick up a loss. The Kameda Vs Morales bout is set to be a 10 rounder at a contracted 56KG's. Also on the card will be Jun Yabuki (7-0, 3) [矢吹純], who hasn't yet had her opponent named. http://www.asianboxing.info/asian-news/tomoki-kameda-to-face-ivan-morales
This past weekend was a huge one for Japanese fight fans, with 4 world title fights aired in full on Fuji TV. Those bouts were highly anticipated and were a major ratings smash, even if some of the fights failed to be great bouts. The biggest success story for ratings was the WBA Middleweight title fight that saw Ryota Murata (12-1, 9) [村田 諒太] suffer a hugely controversial loss to Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam (36-2, 21). The bout got a huge number of viewers which averaged 17.8% in Kanto and 18.4% in Kansai, with Kanto peaking at 23.2%. To put that into raw numbers the bout got 11.4 million average viewers from those two regions, and peaked in Kanto at just under 10 million. The WBC Flyweight title bout between Juan Hernandez Navarrete (34-3, 25) and Daigo Higa (13-0, 13) [比嘉 大吾] managed to draw a huge 9.5% on average in Kanto and a 13.1% peak, That means the average for Kanto alone was more than 4 million and that peak was above 5.5 million viewers The Sunday was less notable in terms of viewers. The IBF Light Flyweight that saw Akira Yaegashi (25-6, 13) [八重樫 東] being blown out in a round by Filipino Milan Melindo (36-2, 13) averaged at 8.2%, which is just under 3.5 million, in Kanto and peaked at 12.3%, which is just under 5.25 million viewers. The WBO Super Flyweight title bout which saw Naoya Inoue (13-0, 11) [井上 尚弥] defending his WBO Super Flyweight title against Ricardo Rodriguez (16-4, 5) drew a peak identical to Yaegashi's bout, with a peak rating of 12.3% or just under 5.25 million, but had an average of 9.7%, or just over 4 million. The ratings for the Inoue bout were less than expected, but Fuji TV have described them as high given that the whole show lasted only 4 rounds of action. One notable thing they have mentioned is that Murata's fight attracted a lot of female viewers and it seems like that is something Fuji will build on, with the channel also said to be interested in running more double weekend blockbusters in the future. http://www.asianboxing.info/asian-news/fuji-tv-have-huge-weekend-ratings
