for me Campbell vs Pacquiao is the fight that will establish a true champ in this division, if Pacquiao comes back to 135. If the WBC gets vacated then Campbell is the true champ in my eyes since he will hold all the other belts.

Casamayor was so shot that he lost to SAnta Cruz. JMM rounds out the top 3 behind Campbell and Pac.

 

I had Casa beating Cruz anyway, Casa owned the first 5rounds then started to run and pot shot, made Cruz miss allot even though he was coming forward

 

I agree. It only shows that being Linear Champ means nothing. It is the boxer who makes the title, no the other way around.

 

Whatever people may think of the decision, no one should ever consider Cruz a "linear champ" - the official record shows he LOST the fight.

It's bad enough boxing has so many goddamn illegitimate "champions" as it is, without factions of fans arbitrarily annointing fighters "champions" because they don't agree with the OFFICIAL decision! How RIDICULOUS!atsch

 

I do not consider Cruz a real champ, but that is irrelevant.... it doesn't matter if he was the real "linear champion" or not, bottom line is that anybody could be linear champ. Only stupid people would think that if you are the linear champ you are the best.

 

Could you elaborate on this?? Many boxing historians consider linear champs to be the most legitimate - "man who beat the man who beat the man" and all that.

I've never heard folks suggesting that this was a LESS legitimate designation that the paper titles of the alphabets - or are you saying that it is equally ILLEGITIMATE?

 

Linear belt or lineal champ or whatever is called, is the same as any other champ. You win it, you lose it and you vacate it. Let me tell you what I think. Please read this.

Nate beat one champ, and that is Juan Diaz, and with that victory he got three titles, He hasn't fought yet another belt holder, but you are giving him the benefit of the doubt and accept him as the real champ just because Pac would vacate????:huh

Can you just IMAGINE the confusion that would result if you had signficant groups of fans out there calling guys "champions" simply because they disagree with the decision! It's absurd. Probably the nuttiest idea I've ever seen suggested on this board - and that's saying something.
