    If they brought back Roman style boxing with the bronze cestus ... I probably wouldn't watch that.

    No damage is too much damage for me.
    If it were up to me, boxings fights would be reduced to 5 rounds tops and I'd eliminate winning on points, the only possible way to win would be by KO.
    And if at the end of the fight both are standing, neither gets paid. That way, I force them to brawl it out.

    Well, i watched a lot of Lethwei before it went more mainstream and got soft.

    Lethwei allowed headbutts and much more disturbingly, allowed recovery time after a KO (10 seconds) for the fighter to recover and he could return to the action if he liked. That is, a knockout didn't end the fight. All that ended the fight was a KO where a fighter couldn't recover in seventy seconds or a second KO.

    And all fights that ended with no KO after 5 rounds were draws.

    And the people who did it tended to be quite poor (sub-boxing and Muay Thai in Cambodia).

    So, extremely brutal by boxing's standards and also more exploitative.

    So more brutal than that.

    I don't know much of anything about Lethwei expect it's pretty much Thai boxing with head butts and some alterations in the scheme. How's the culture? because as you'd know folks churn through kids like it's nothing in Muay Thai and use them up like Roosters while they fight for relative pennies. It's not uncommon there to be showing signs of brain damage very, very young.

    Lame. You'd ruin the best parts of boxing and it'd be a sport filled with ugly, terrible fighters.

    I'm surprised Muay Thai results in so much brain damage given the focus on kicking, especially midriff, and the fact that the fights are only 5 (but really 3) rounds long.

    Maybe there's a subset who do ridiculous sparring (though i know this isn't usually the case for head-punches), I've no idea.

    I don't really even try to track it down now tbh because you are just far more likely to run into the reclaimed version which is just very substandard kick-boxing.

    Mm. I don't think it's as prevalent as boxing and the sparring is tame in Thailand with an emphasis on form. But dehydrated (Old school way) kids punching each other in the heads leads to fatalities and early brain damage development.
