“Fainting Phil” Scott - the King of “Winner by DQ”. “Bombardier” Billy Wells was cool - though Billy got bombed quite a few times himself. I would’ve thought a Bomber would beat a Gunner (Moir) but not so, at least first time around. Bomber prevailed in the rematch. Later in life, Billy got given the gong by the Rank Organisation:- This content is protected
Now there’s a name from the past you can’t easily forget. Just like “I’m not the Father” Flannery. Didn’t BHB fight in the same era as “Lamaze” Lewis and “Lactating” Larson also? I seem to recall “Posterior” Pete Pendleton too but I could be wrong. All breast fed until at least the age of 10 of course - and all as tough as TEAK. Fighters who truly sucked but actually didn’t.
I was friendly with a 6'8" baby faced doorman who worked right near me. Some huge weight, nice guy, he said his promoter only got him sawdust floored type of fights by then. A short thin guy who hung out there had the balls to suggest to him this nickname: "The Ticklish 'Taint". Which earned him a playful but harmlessly soft straight left to the shoulder.
James "Buster" Douglas A buster in urban slang means someone who is seen as a loser, a chump & a useless person. Basically a bum..
A rather intimidating nickname is "Bonecrusher". Tony "TNT" Tucker, and Tony "TNT" Tubbs tell me that any boxer named Tony and whose last name starts with "T" will be nicknamed "TNT". "TNT" (Trinitrotoluene) is certainly not used for growing flowers.
“Winky” Wright It’s slang for small *****. https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=winkie&=true
The name Bombadier Billy Wells was the answer to a million pound question on UK version of 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' regarding his gong bashing, only million pound answer i have ever got right......damn i coulda been a contender
Would’ve been great to win the Mil with a boxing answer - any answer really, LOL. On much lesser scale I missed out on $350 at pub trivia - first two correct, 1) first playboy pinup?: Marilyn Monroe, 2) where did Errol Flynn die?: Vancouver. 3) Ian Fleming’s middle name?: WTF? Okay “James” sounded like a good guess. NO, It was Lancaster. Have never forgotten that and have never been asked again. Maybe one day I will, on Who Wants to be a Millionaire……. Ha!
