If someone ranks Ingo over the Bronze Bomber he or she is untethered from reality. I saw a list on twitter of atg qbs , an obvious troll attempt, and Tom Brady wasn't on it. The fact that most readers would find my observation unremarkable demonstrates that while atg lists are subjective they aren't that subjective.

 

In general, no. It only reflects the personal opinion of someone.

The worst one might say in response to them is that their pick is outlandish and that few, if any, would agree. If you are publishing your lists in a boxing publication, on-line or otherwise, then eccentric picks might lose you credibility and your editor might find that approach to be incorrect, even though the pick itself might not be.

However, one could perhaps base their rating on incorrect data or information and, therefore, inject an actual flaw into the reasoning of their rating. In which case, you might be able to suggest the rating is incorrect (albeit that it is actually the rationale used to justify the rating that is incorrect).

 

if you believe Joe Louis was more of fraud & illegitimate with fixed fight record . that would make the rank possible. but they need at least attempt to show evidence in discovering this

I think if u don’t have Ali and Louis in the 1/2 you’re wrong. Other then that 3-16 can be mixed and matched to anyone’s liking.

Your list is great. We could quibble about Sonny but it's your opinion buttressed by observable evidence. That makes it a good opinion.

 

It can't really be incorrect, but it could be beyond justification, and I won't take umbridge at calling something beyond justification, for example not having Ingo in the top 3, incorrect

 

Everyone has the right to their personal opinion (at least it is theoretically so), but some objectivity should be maintained.
Boxing knowledge is also a factor in this topic.
The ATG list is also getting smaller as time goes by.

Rummy has done research for 8 traditional categories, and I think it's a great job.
Then the HW ATG list showed up like this:
1. Muhammad Ali
2. Joe Louis

IMO over time Lennox Lewis will become #3.

There is some wiggle room, but anyone who knows what there talking about should be capable of at least backing up their rankings. You can't both say whatever you want and always be correct at the same time. Like your Ingo example, all you would have to do is ask them why, and there is no way they can actually justify that claim better than someone else can contradict them. Boxing isn't that Subjective.

On the other hand, If may be a little off topic, I think tier lists are probably more accurate.

Edit: Also without some degree of objectivity conversation can become very difficult at least.

An opinion we would all recognize as absurd cannot be technically incorrect.
Unless it is based upon false facts; any seemingly insane chain of evidence interpretation remains subjective-thus an opionion.
You could even argue that someone who never boxed & was say almost bedridden could have been the GOAT.
If however you say that a guy who never boxed professionally WAS the best ever, then we can say since he did not formally participate in the sport, that is impossible to even theoretically establish.

But hypothetically someone could claim a man who was 0-1 or had lost most or all bouts was the GOAT.
However bizarre & tortured the arguments.
