I think the thing is though that people are overlooking, is that if Ali was fighting Briggs instead of Spinks. As I said you'd probably see more out of it Ali because obviously Briggs would have more fights and the high KO percentage. So he would probably be looked at as more of threat than Spinks. Remember Spinks had a draw against LeDoux prior to fighting Ali, and hadn't really shown that much as a professional. Ali probably thought he could be lazy and lay on the ropes, and make the inexperienced Spinks tire himself out. But Ali seriously underestimated Spinks's stamina and workrate. My big issue overall is that Briggs's stamina is so bad due to his asthma. Unless he gets a freak early stoppage I can literally see Briggs collapsing due to exhaustion.
Got to go with Ali here. Regardless of where Ali was at this point in his career, Spinks put on a solid performance in their first fight, which I doubt Briggs could emulate.
A reasoned post. I don't wholly buy Briggs' asthma excuses but do agree it could be a factor later. I'm also not sure that there would BE a 'later'. Ali should have retired way before he did. These washed out versions of him do him no justice and frankly detract from his legacy.
