nope, hes English. calls himself Welsh, but that dont change the fact that he was born in London and that his English fanbase is probably bigger than his Welsh one. So no he hardly never fought abroad (just intercontinental champ Veit and also some completely unknown guy in Copenhagen who isnt even on wikipedia) till Hopkins got so old he couldnt fight high pace more than 5 rounds. More to do with Calzaghes personality, he was kinda scared of getting beaten. I think thats why Hatton and Froch get more respect, they didnt have Joe's fear and lack of confidence. Zaghes after 37 wouldnt beat Froch, he was losing it after that age and getting decked by grandads.
I said arguably. It's up for debate, he hasn't made a CRAZY statement IMO, there is a case for him having the best resume out of them all. He's fought elite fighter after elite fighter for what 8 fights in a row and won most of them. His resume IMO is much much deeper than the others, sure Calzaghe has 3 great wins albeit over an old Hopkins and old Eubank but Froch has 6 or 7 really good wins. After those 3 wins for Calzaghe who really is there? Also Froch fought most of his fights away from home! Surely that counts for something? The man is an absolute warrior, sure he talks **** but every Boxing fan must love Carl Froch because he gives us something that not a lot of fighters do these days. If Froch now goes and beats Kessler in a rematch then beats Bute in Canada next year then there is no debate for me.
agreed. Guaranteed there will still be a daily mass debate by Calzaghe fans, mind you. see below VVVVVV
"Has a better CV". Well... depends... Calzaghe for sure has the better 2-3 wins (Kessler and Hopkins for sure, and eve old Eubank was probabl also better than Carl's best win). In order to rival Calzaghe's CV beating Bute again and Kessler won't be enough. Kessler is still top-notch, but physically he is a bit worn. Froch would have to beat Ward to even come close to Calzaghe's CV (if talking about best wins). But if he means "has fought the better people" then I'll buy it because he also fought Kessler and Ward, plus all the great wins he does have. Who is actually Froch's best win? I would say Pascal, Bute are the two best... next would be Taylor, and Dirrell can prove really good if Andre pulls his career together. _______ Froch also lacks some of the longivity that Calzaghe and Hopkins had. So I would be fine with Froch taking some more 'standard' fights now. Like a Stevenson, or one of the english young SMWs coming up. Or even the UK (Welsh) LHW guy who used to spar Calzaghe.. what's his name? (although that wouldn't necessarily be an easy fight).
So Froch's resume still won't be as good because beating Abraham, Pascal, Taylor, Dirrell, Bute x2 and Kessler isn't as good as beating Hopkins and an undefeated Kessler? That's like saying Bradley has a better resume than Mayweather because he beat Pacquiao. Terrible logic.
Yeah this is my line of thinking also but wasn't sure what other people think. Surely you have to have a depth to your resume also and not just 2 great wins.
Of course it's not a crazy statement, he's a fighter, of course he thinks he's the best. Fair play to him, he's earnt my respect and he's my favourite active fighter currenty. I still don't think beating Kessler and Bute enhances his legacy above Calzaghe's, beating Ward and Dawson could
