He wouldn't have got half as much praise or attention for beating Steiglitz. Abraham took that mandatory spot anyway, so he might have had to wait until 2015 for a WBO shot. The IBF mandatory fell into his lap so he's not gonna turn it down.
True, no one believes that injury at the time was legit and I still don't. Booth/groves had a plan at the time which didn't include Steiglez.
More money for this fight plus Stieglitz wouldn't have been an easy win either especially in Germany. So yeah he isn't stupid. If he loses vs Froch the Stieglitz fight is still be a possibility for next year. i think he made the right choice.
Financial reasons 500k+ if he wins great if he gets beat which I expect as long as he puts in a good show his stock isn't greatly affected. Young enough either way to come again.
I don't post often but where is this idea that Froch is huge puncher coming from, he's knocked out three of his last 10 opponents, Mack has been knocked out five times, he hit Bute flush god knows how many times before he went down (and was still out on his feet, not koed flat out) and he caught Taylor with a peach after a long gruelling fight. He's a strong, good puncher but he still needs to bully Groves and wear him down, I can't see Froch connecting with one perfect shot and Groves going down. I expect Froch to win either by UD or a late late stoppage but lets not pretend he's the superstar he thinks he is, he got schooled by Ward, arguably by Taylor before the late ko, outfought by Kessler and got a lucky decision vs Dirrell. 80-20 fight for Froch but I wouldn't be surprised if Groves pulled a surprise out the bag.
Froch is a heavy handed hard puncher at the elite level, but not a KO artist of course. At the elite level there are very few one punch KO artists. Groves has good one punch KO power at the lower level, but Froch is more heavy handed in general. I don't think anyone can dispute Froch's resume, but people are probably just sick of hearing about it which is why they bring him down.
