DeMarcus "Chop Chop" Corley vs. Lucas Martin "Cold Blood" Matthysse RBR

Yeah, he's pretty anti-clinch.

 

Guys, that is someone with a 18-10-4 record surviving an early beating and knocking out an undefeated power punching prospect.

That was truly inspiring ****.

He walks into the ring in one of the silliest getups I've ever seen.

A red executioner mask (a'la Hopkins) and a chest brace that looks like something out of a post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie with two rubber battle-axes strapped across his back.

 

Matthysse already has a good sweat built up. He looks loose and ready.

 

Round 1

Corley snaps out stiff jabs. Matthysse wants no part of him yet, preferring a measured start pecking his way in and out from long range with body hooks and high right hands out of a stance that somehow seems relaxed w/ a tight high guard. Corley throws a few combos coming forward, double right hooks and quick straight lefts. Matthysse isn't able to time him with anything during the combos and resorts to just covering up and hopping out of the way. Corley catches him with a sharp straight left to the face. They clinch as Matthysse starts coming forward to meet him and Corley literally leaps into his arms like a bride posing for a wedding photo...weird. It's getting ugly as Matthysse grabs and spins Corley on almost every exchange. Corley already has a blooody right cheek. Matthysse grabs him in a headlock. Hard left hook to the body by Matthysse.

 

Interesting!

In the Tecate text message poll of the mostly Latin-American audience, 75% said Corley was the fighter "con mas Caracter" (basically the bigger badass) to Matthysse's 25%. :shock:

 

Round 2

Corley puts his head down and pounds his way inside, using good defensive head movement and working the body well. Matthysse rips him with a few left hooks downstairs himself but can't find a clean headshot. WOW! Matthysse pimp slapped with a flush right hook. Corley is warned to keep his punches up and argues with the referee (or is pleading to have the action resume ASAP, since he was laying it on). Corley gets inside again and lands short right uphooks and beeline 1-2s to the grill while rolling his head in the pocket and avoiding counters (except some to the body). HARD 1-2 to the face by Matthysse as Corley is admiring his work pulling out of an exchange. Corley jabs with him and lands first, and they clinch up for the rest of the round.
