As of last night, Corley is back on the winning track with a fourth round TKO of game trial horse Damian Fuller (a few rounds faster than Lamont Peterson or Tyrone Harris got the job done, but a round later than the late Chico Corrales did). The victory snaps a two-loss skid, and he was coming off a particularly brutal KO loss to Freddy "El Riel" Hernandez which had many ringside and TV observers concerned for his well-being and skeptical of him ever returning to action. He is now 8-12 in his last 20. For someone who's traded mitts with some of the best in the business and taken some prolonged absolute beatings from HOF talent, he's still fairly sharp but is now at best a fringe contender. He can box and punch, and is a fairly accurate and classy combination wrangler for a 36 year old, but his power, speed, and reflexes have all taken a hit...as has punch resistance that was never top-notch to begin with. He's had a good career, and whenever Chop Chop lays down the axe, he'll be able to look back with pride. He's always given a good account of himself. Hopefully he can rack up a few more decent wins and maybe land one big payday. :good
So you are referring to Fariz Kazimov in Russia last November, because there's no way you can be referring to his last fight before you made this post, where he was brutally KTFO on Showtime by Freddy Hernandez. There is simply no possible way to view that as a jobbing. That was a real coming out party for "El Riel". Corley kept it close and at times frustrated Hernandez with his southpaw style, as people have said - but by the fifth and final round the young Mexican's superior power was starting to make a dent, and you could almost smell it in the air before the skull-cracking right hand that put Corley's future in doubt.
Freddy Hernandez outweighed him by five lbs at the weigh in and I wonder how much more weight he gained for the fight. I don't know, I am giving chop chop the benefit of the doubt. He's no world beater, but he's a good test for up and coming young fighters at 140lbs.
He's been jobbed a lot lately, but getting KTFO by Freddi Hernandez isn't a good sign. He beat a halfway decent fighter last night though. And he was up to his old tricks. This content is protected IntentionalButt - I think he was talking about the Hector Sanchez fight, in which he was robbed, which was his last televised fight before Hernandez.
Im glad that although Chop is past his best, he's been able to snap his losing streaks, and not look like a fool losing against fighters sport records of 20-26 (K McBride style). Maybe if he stays in shape and motivated who knows, maybe he can ko the right guy and get an interm strap shot thanks to the corrupt sanctioning bodies who's rankings are ******ed.
Yup. Hopefully that will fuel his momentum to at least a decent ppv undercard payday. But this is boxing, and he isn't exactly young on those terms, so I'm sure another six figure payday for a fading fighter like him is probably far fetched.
****, i had respect for him but if that's true i have MASSIVE respect for him. chop chop was a good damn fighter, gave judah hell and mayweather hell for a bit in their fights. at his best, at his ATHLETIC best, he was a solid titlist level fighter
i was there last night. Chop looked like a new man.. i was impressed and happy for one of the better personalities in boxing.
Yea, I remember him having 7 kids, then I just remember something with his brothers kids he has to take care of them. I don't know if he died but I remember thinking 14 kids is a lot to provide for.
see i was more impressed with his fight with judah. that was a prime, confident judah and corley held his own in losing a close decision
